junneh Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 HEllo, Ive been playing DCS on a TFlight HOTAS X i lend from a friend. (I find this stick sufficient, except for a10c) Im in the market for a new stick, but not on a very big budget I have the option to buy a NEW Saitek X45 for 50 euros. This will leave me some room to eventually also buy rudder pedals, please keep this in mind. Will this stick last me, or am I better of saving up for the new X55 Rhino ( Im impatient, and probably out of stock for another month here in the NEtherlands.) the TM Warthog is simply too expensive. Also, Are there any known issues with this stick? thanks.
Esac_mirmidon Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 I was using my x-45 for more than 6 years and i dont have enough words to explain how happy i was with it. It was my very first truly HOTAS and it worked flawles all this years. A little bit tough to move it because the strong spring but with a little home made spring tension release on the base the moving was soft again. Now i have a x-55 and the improvement is awesome in precision, soft movement and programing options. But if you dont have enough money the x-45 for 50$ can do the job perfectly. So its up to you if the x-55 worth the extra money or you want to save 100 $ and go for the x-45. " You must think in russian.." Boris Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 I had an X45 some time ago, and it' not such a bad stick. It was the improvement over the original X36f. It's got a pretty good feel and is a decent hotas with many buttons. However, it is really old, and I'm not sure how the software support is. It's been long discontinued... are you sure it's new? In any case, windows should detect it, and at very least you should be able to assign the button directly in DCS. The price is very good, but if you look around you might be able to get a used X52 for around 70€. Witchking Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 I had the X45 for a long while...before that I had a logitech stick. Honestly, I had a better time with the smooth logitech than the X45. The X45 was just too tough to move and very clunky IMO. On the other hand, the X52 or whatever which you can get for a lot cheaper price used on ebay or kijiji...it has a hall effect sensor and it definitely is a lot more precise and easier to use. The warthog I agree is expensive and can be very tough to move...but the motion is butter smooth and precise...so it works well that way. PS: If u can hold out for the X55...I definitely recommend u to save up. Get the newer X55. I have seen very good reviews about it. You will be pleased. All these newer sticks blow the X45 out of water. junneh Posted June 21, 2014 Author Posted June 21, 2014 (edited) Yes, im sure its new, the stick is still in plastic and foams with an unopened driver cd. I think i will buy this, if it is insufficient, i can still save up, $50 is not such a big investment. Im unable to find an used x52 in my country, and all the new ones are out of stock( as is the new x55 rhino) I think with rudder pedals this is my best optyion since i enjoy the huey and mi8 most, and the cheap stick will allow me to buy pedals right now and not in a few months, which i think will add a nice extra to flying the helo's in DCS. the thing is, that x55 just looks to damn sexy. EDIT: Does anyone have experiuence with the HORI FLIGHT STICK 3 (or EX2, same stick, different console ) in DCS? Edited June 21, 2014 by junneh
ShuRugal Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 I just acquired an X-55 this week, and it is almost 100% worth the money. My only complaints are the ministick (sucks, as with all Saitek ministicks) and the software (same programming software as SST, but less functional)
