uboats Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 (edited) I just received my CH pedal and experienced the pedal for the first time. I have several questions. Previously I thought, during taxi, if plane turns left, the left pedal should move backward while right pedal moves forward. here “backward” means toward pilot However, what I observed in both su25 and su27 cockpit shows different result (see red circle in pics). It indicates that if turn (yaw) left, left pedal forward while right backward. So I had to invert the rudder axis, since the original axis direction made me uncomfortable. So in RL, which one is true? Sceptre Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 Always, if taxiing left, the left pedal is depressed, the right pedal comes forward, and vice versa. 1 RTX 2070 8GB | 32GB DDR4 2666 RAM | AMD Ryzen 5 3600 4.2Ghz | Asrock X570 | CH Fighterstick/Pro Throttle | TM MFDs | TrackIR 5
uboats Posted June 29, 2014 Author Posted June 29, 2014 Always, if taxiing left, the left pedal is depressed, the right pedal comes forward, and vice versa. so which means the animation of pedals is correct? did you define forward as toward the pilot? Sceptre Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 Yeah I meant towards the pilot. Yes, the animation is correct. RTX 2070 8GB | 32GB DDR4 2666 RAM | AMD Ryzen 5 3600 4.2Ghz | Asrock X570 | CH Fighterstick/Pro Throttle | TM MFDs | TrackIR 5
uboats Posted June 29, 2014 Author Posted June 29, 2014 Yeah I meant towards the pilot. Yes, the animation is correct. thank you. Well, it would take a long time for me to get used to this correct one. Wichid Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 Question about the pedal animation I had to look this up a long time ago when I got pedals. Originally I thought it was like a bicycle handle bars but that was wrong. The pedals were connected to the rudder by cable so, when turning push the rudder towards the nose on that side to pull the rudder that way. Flagrum Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 I never really thought about it. It was like it was and I just used the pedals that way. Now I can't even imagine it being any different ... :o) Later (when I got my P-51D) I came to think about it like this: it is the same "logic" as for "differential braking". If you brake each wheel independently in order to perform turns, you have to brake the inner wheel of the intended curve. I.e. if you want to turn right, you brake the right wheel -> right brake ... and same for rudder. :o)

Yes, I thought it would act like bicycle, since pedals not only control rudder but also nose wheel. That was what I thought so. Uboats, don't worry. You'll learn it in time like me. Hope this would not misleading me in real life if there does exist similar operations.;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] My DCS Mods, Skins, Utilities and Scripts | Windows 10 | i7-4790K | GTX 980Ti Hybrid | 32GB RAM | 3TB SSD | | TM Warthog Stick | CH Pro Throttle + Pro Pedal | TIR5 Pro | TM MFD Cougar | Gun Camera: PrtScn |
John C Flett Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 I remember having problems when I first got my pedals too. Especially as joystick twist, at least in more basic sims, reversed the controls. Even after I was used to it it never made total sense until I played Rise of Flight and you could actually see the mechanism at work. That was when the little light bulb went on in my head.
