wilky510 Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Is he right ? I guess time will tell . Mr Sprey take on F-35 1.) Mr Sprey didn't design the F-16, nor the A-10. 2.) He thought the F-15 was a total failure; because it had a radar, was too big, and had twin engines. 3.) Sprey wanted to use F-16 as a radarless air superiority fighter, which is quite different from what made the F-16 as successful as today. 4.) He literally wanted to use a cheap F-16, giving the pilot no big advantage in combat, except for numbers (so he basically wanted to trade lives for enemy aircraft). 5.) He's not even in the aircraft business anymore, and his opinion should be taken lightly. 6.) F-35 has alot of hate, and he's just fueling the fire for no reason. While i think the F-35 is over-budgeted aircraft, it has alot improvement for success, especially down the road with uprated engines, easily updated software; ETC.
Huron Posted July 6, 2014 Author Posted July 6, 2014 His involvement in A-10 and F-16 and some extent F-15 is exaggerated but why criticize F-35 so much ? It is ridiculously expensive but cannot be that bad .
SDsc0rch Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 time and money the solution to all problems and this one has a lot of problems the f-35 will (probably, eventually) be successful - by sheer force of will... i7-4790K | Asus Sabertooth Z97 MkI | 16Gb DDR3 | EVGA GTX 980 | TM Warthog | MFG Crosswind | Panasonic TC-58AX800U [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
ENO Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 I don't know anything about anything- but I can really appreciate the way he formulates his responses... I like his analogies and insights as well. "ENO" Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret. "Sweetest's" Military Aviation Art
McBlemmen Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 I'm with Eno , i'm not an engineer but atleast he makes almost everything he says sounds really legit. Then again , so did some other people in history who i will not name to avoid offending anyone. I especially like his take on how stealth is pretty useless , since on a modern battlefield there will be multiple radars scanning you and stealth cant .. jam (for lack of a better word , i know stealth doesnt JAM radar) all of them
Ktulu2 Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 2.) He thought the F-15 was a total failure; because it had a radar, was too big, and had twin engines. WHAT?? Am I stupid or radar is THE biggest advantage of the F15s era against older generations? Even with RWR, you can't have BVR without semi-active/long rage guidance. I do DCS videos on youtube : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAs8VxtXRJHZLnKS4mKunnQ?view_as=public
wilky510 Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 WHAT?? Am I stupid or radar is THE biggest advantage of the F15s era against older generations? Even with RWR, you can't have BVR without semi-active/long rage guidance. His idea was that BVR aircraft are 100% useless, and thus don't require a radar. He wanted a radarless F-16 carrying 6 IR missiles, he felt jamming would make all radars useless in a modern battlefield. He said the F-15 was going to be a total failure, just like his opinions today about the F-35... So take it how you want to.
