WRAITH Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 (edited) Advanced A.i Artificial Intelligence in Game Development One of my concerns is a growing trend in Multi-Player over the last few years and how it impacts on A.i. (Artificial Intelligence) and Single-Player Offline game functionality in regards to a few remaining Air Combat Simulators that are currently in development. Many have forgotten that it was Microprose Falcon 4.0 A.i Dynamic Campaign that brought much excitement to Air Combat Simulators that rivals todays standards. More here on that Link:- http://www.combatsim.com/memb123/htm/jan99/f4-camp1.htm But let us leave that great old sim alone for the mean time and simply look and discuss “Advanced A.i in Game Development in Modern Day Games”! When you take a look at other games in the gaming industry the market audience demands more in this realm of A.i because many of today's titles have evolved or taken a quantum leap forward into how some games even communicate with themselves meaning Advanced A.i Technologies. Please watch this…………… Mmm, food for thought, I think? EXAMPLE OF A.i in games like in ARMIII and Battlefield4......................... So now consider PC CHESS Games even professional Chess players will tell you they are a great asset and tool to learn and master set moves even to challenge your strategy as the A.i's intuitive code / algorithms have proven to be quiet the challenge. Learn more by browsing this Link…… http://www.filiphofer.com/en/ An interesting article to read by Donald "DJ" Kehoe A.i Games Developer About the Author As an instructor for New Jersey Institute of Technology's Information Technology Program, DJ developed the specialization in game development and teaches many of the program's courses on Game Architecture, Programming and Level Design, as well as courses that integrate 3D graphics with games. He is currently working on his PhD in Biomedical Engineering where he applies game and virtual reality to enhance the effects of neuromuscular rehabilitation. I welcome discussion and A.i input (joke :megalol:) that has creativity and insight for "Modern Air Combat Simulation" gaming considering that Air Combat sim's can be taught maths and laws of physics that apply to aviation and air combat especially 5th gen fighters. I.e. A.i. planes can be taught to learn energy-management and angular timing and positional geometry. When to exchange angles for energy in Dogfights. In some cases A.i planes in combat sims do not know how to recognize and equalize total energy differences potential and kinetic towards their targets or wing-men flying in formation. In some cases A.i Fighter Air Craft fly very linear scripted and mostly only lead pursuit with max AOA bleeding off energy constantly and suffering from it. Also with good flight model physics modeling the effect of flight control departure, spins, spirals, falling leaf, inverted loss etcetra are implemented into a combat sim. Video Example - Now considering this is an air combat with developer interest of further developing more air craft and MAPs / Theaters, again emphasis on A.i Single Player opens opportunities. Where for example you might fly into a Theater campaign where you are first tasked to make a safe path for CAS missions a bomber squadrons that are tasked with bombing runs on enemy ground forces then by destroying all SAMS sites and combine tactics with high level bombers, helo's and low level fighter air craft against military targets and militia type ground attacks around a suburban type scenario. The A.i then allows you to communicate with other air craft in the support mission phase to complete the tasking orders and patrol the area assigning new orders depending on dynamic campaign development. Imagine an F-117 dealing carpet bombing whilst your heading north destroying SAMS in a F-18 and F-35 ship of 4 etc whilst AWACS alerts you of enemy air craft approaching as you switch from A-G to A-A and coordinate a defensive strategy to overcome the incoming SU-27 bogeys. Again like simulating a Chess game you have multiple choices to make as a combat pilot and you learn heaps as you either fail or win the situation and review your ACMI recording. Which is built into the game. Just so much more that a PC Air Combat game could offer but, I see that these days are not like the JANES USAF or Microprose Falcon 4.0 and many other nice game titles of the old days. Sadly! Especially now that we have all this new technology like this - Its just so sad not to have a modern all out sim looking like this - Again awesome and to have a global map that would look like that would make this sweet! Well here I now leave this topic open for the general flight sim community to share your thoughts creativity so on. I just wanted to state I got permission first by a DCS Moderator on this topic before opening a new Topic in this Forum section. So please respect the Topic and share your A.i input............ :smilewink: Thanks! Kind Regards, Wraith Edited July 13, 2016 by WRAITH
