KaspeR32 Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 (edited) Hello, I'm currently running a 7850 2gb video card and I just saw that the R9 280X is now selling for $269 with a $20 mail in rebate on newegg. I'm thinking $250 and free shipping is pretty damn good for an old 7970 with 3gb 384-bit memory. My ONLY gripe is regarding DCS and the Oculus Rift. AMD cards just have a black screen when trying to run the Rift, that really bugs me. Also P3D likes Nvidia cards as well. What do you guys think? Is the deal worth dealing with AMD driver support and odd glitches? EDIT: Ended up buying it. Guess I'll just have to figure out whether it was worth it on my own ;) Mods you can delete this thread. limbo696 Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Anybody!?! I'd like to go NVIDIA given that most of the flight sim community say that NVIDIA cards run the sims better but it's a bad time to buy NVIDIA right now with their cards approaching 50% more in price for comparable performance to AMD. This is making for a difficult decision for me.
Insanatrix Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 There was a Visiontek one on sale at tigerdirect for $234.99 and then there was a $15 coupon so you got it effectively for $214.99. Also if you setup bill me later you got another $15 off I think bringing it to $199.99. I think the sale is over now but it was a steal and I picked one up to go crossfireX with my other 280x. As for poor performance in the game, I've had no trouble with my single 280x running DCS World. Never had any issue's and runs the game a hell of a lot better than my old GTX 480 did.
trooph Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 7970 and r9 280x are basically the same cards but rebranded. Not much if any FPS gain...
