As a title says, Croatian MiG-21 marked 121 crashed about hour ago 1 kilometer from runway at Pleso airfield near Zagreb. Pilot has ejected but there is no news about his condition. At the moment, there is no more news. :(

The news are that the airplane caught fire in the air and pilot managed to steer it to the least populated area of the village in which accident occurred. Parts of the airplane fell in people's backyards but luckily no one on the ground was injured and the pilot has only minor injuries.

They probably mean that it was last repaired 12 years ago - that isn't the same as servicing is it though!

Maybe until just before it crashed, it had developed no faults.

It got damaged somehow and it was repaired to flying condition.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

On the press conference, the pilot Stanko Hrzenjak said that there was some problem with landing gear, than engine exploded when plane was flying 400 km/h and 500 meters high. Smoke filled the cockpit and Dangerous regime indicator came on. After few moments, there was a hydraulics failure, pilot waited that plane was clear of the houses below and, at the hight of 200 meters, he ejected. He later said that he was some 15 seconds from successful landing.

The plane was near expiration of the flying resources, but fully functional during the take-off.

The local villagers speaks of the pilot with great respect because he waited in burning plane until clear of their houses below.
