KingGEAR Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Hello, I recently bought the UH-1H DLC pack for DCS and I have expierenced some trim issues. I have the aircraft started up and the blade is rotating like normal. Eveytime I pull half collective the planes rudders right and continues to yaw right. Then I looked deeper into this problem and I checked the rudder trim box in Special. I tried to set trim with that and it still has the same problem. I can not set the trim and make the huey hover off the ground with out yawing right. All answers will be helpful. Thank you!
aeliusg Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 What kind of controls are you using? This is natural behavior for the helicopter, the pilot is supposed to counter it by left pedal and cyclic slightly left and back.
Cibit Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 It is a particularly difficult aircraft to master. If you can check out some of the videos posted in the peter pilots section. As aeliusg has mentioned trim the stick back and to the left. bring up the control helper with right control +enter to see where your virtual stick is trimmed to. Also as collective is raised left rudder needs to be applied to compensate for the torque produced by the tail rotor i5 8600k@5.2Ghz, Asus Prime A Z370, 32Gb DDR4 3000, GTX1080 SC, Oculus Rift CV1, Modded TM Warthog Modded X52 Collective, Jetseat, W10 Pro 64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Adding JTAC Guide //My Vid's//229th AHB
KingGEAR Posted August 24, 2014 Author Posted August 24, 2014 I am using a Thrustmaster HOTAS joystick. I can see in my F-15 settings there is trim left, trim rudder left etc. But if I look in my UH-1H settings for trim, I can't find any of the trim left or trim rudder left stuff. I only find pilot trimmer and reset trim. Any help?
Cibit Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 You need to move your joystick then press your trim button. This moves the central position of your stick. I have the pinkie switch bound for my trim on the warthog. You need to trim constantly while flying the huey and if you don't have rudder pedals you will need to assign a slider for rudder. Also I would not recommend rudder trim. Don't though think that you can get into the huey and be able to hover after couple of sessions. It is something you need to work hard at. A curve on the cyclics 2 axis of between 20 - 30 might help too. i5 8600k@5.2Ghz, Asus Prime A Z370, 32Gb DDR4 3000, GTX1080 SC, Oculus Rift CV1, Modded TM Warthog Modded X52 Collective, Jetseat, W10 Pro 64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Adding JTAC Guide //My Vid's//229th AHB

Yes, the helicopter will have a tendency to yaw right on takeoff, you must always counter with some left yaw. It is also worth noting that since Russian(and every other country except US) helicopters rotors spin counter clockwise, so they will have a tendency to yaw left upon takeoff. But yes, helicopter trim and aeroplane trim work much differently. First of all, you probably don't want to trim the rudders whatsoever in general. It would help for the intial takeoff, but will hinder you when you are actually trying to trim into a hover or something or other. You would end up fighting the aircraft 24/7. Better to just get a good feel for where your rudder should be during takeoff with a little bit of practice. Helicopter trim is not based on trim wheels or HAT keys. It is just one HOTAS key that centers the cyclic(stick) on the place you are holding the stick.
HawgTooth Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 i just picked up the Huey a couple of weeks ago and as a new heli pilot in training i find it really helpful to use the "right ctrl enter" command so you can see where your controls are exactly ... kinda of a visual of where you are at with your trim ... but that is just me ... :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
