just learned to manually start this wild bird and the next step is taking it to the skys but here is where i get confused: i read many of the threads here about engine manegment and the different situations in different alt and the steps needed to keep the merlin in optimal condition.

as i read more threads i just get more confused. english is not my native langunge and i prefer video tutorials - is there a tutorial on engine managment - emergency procedures - do and not to do while flying and before dogfighting?

PDF or a thread i didn't notice will be also helpful :book:

thanks

You worry too much. Actually, keeping this engine ticking is relatively easy for a WWII bird, because radiators, mixture and supercharger are operated automatically. My primary advice for a novice user would be getting a habit of checking coolant and oil temperatures frequently. Most of my engine failures when I was learning the P-51 were caused by overheating. You can easily overheat when taxying (not enough airflow through the radiator), or during slow dogfight with max power settings (not enough airflow again). Optimal temperatures are conveniently marked on gauges with a green colour - that applies to all the instruments, as You probably noticed.

Just read the manual, lots of valuable info there, including emergency procedures, remember the recommended manifold pressure and RPM settings for different regimes of flight (takeoff, climb, cruise), keep temperatures on green and You will be fine. That's enough for a good start.

there is a chart on the right canopy rail. follow those settings and you will be fine. if you need extra help - log into the DoW server and hook up with us on TS3 - we will be happy to help you get the most out of the bird.
