I haven't flown air combat online in years. But a combination of the right circumstances has brought me back (i.e. having the time, energy, a good machine, and a good sim). The DCS:F-86F Sabre is the perfect plane for me to do so: primarily a clean, fast, agile air-to-air fighter with good handling and simple systems. The F-86 Sabre Combat Range mission is the perfect place to fly the Sabre. Thanks to everyone involved with making the F-86F Sabre at Belsimtek and thanks to the host/creator of the F-86 Sabre Combat Range. Having an associated Teamspeak 3 server makes it that much better!

I look for this mission every night after 9 PM. If this mission is up and I am still awake, that is where I am:

A few of us from reddit.com/r/hoggit have been bouncing in and out, thanks for the server! Great place to practice. The only complaint is that the weather conditions (low ceiling, gray clouds) make it quite difficult to pick up the migs, especially for those of us flying at higher resolutions. Besides that the spawning is great. Get's a little hectic when the AA starts going off over the field, pretty wild.

Pikey, I am not sure why you would have a problem. I have been able to join and fly this server every time I have tried, and usually with no lag.

I have recently established that I can successfully host this mission. So now, if the original server isn't up or is crashed, I can put up a backup.

I can see the player numbers, i'm sure its fine at that end. I wonder if it's just lag tolerance when it negotiates the connection. I'm in the UK, on cable broadband, I've noticed that multiplayer can be susceptible to regional differences ie harder to connect to servers in Russia or the US for me and drops those connections faster.

Anecdotally, it's always been that way and i've been in three different countries over the last 5 years moving around with work so i suspect this is a limitation but I'd be interested for others to share their findings, especially other Europeans connecting to this server and wether you are east or West coast.

Shame, i'd love to come play :)

The server will be even better when the MiG-15bis becomes available. I am only interested in air-to-air for the time being... so I will fly whichever side is undermanned to try to balance the action.

^^ i agree.. the DoW server went crazy once the flyable FW190 came out. I imagine the Mig will do the same for any Sabre servers.

The current version of this mission (0.62) allows players to fly RED F-86Fs in lieu of MiG-15bis. A great solution for now. Unfortunately, it was difficult to find the opponent without messaging each other our current lat/long/alt. We went to contrail alt, found each other, and went head on. The mission now has an auto reset (and warning message counting down the final minutes) to refresh the AI missions after they have been completed. I had just enough time to maneuver behind the human player enemy and get a kill before the reset. First multiplayer kill against a real person in years. Didn't realize how much I missed the adrenaline of online fights. Flew Aces High and SFP1/WoX online for years... then had a kid and had to stop until now. Looking forward to the MiG-21bis and trying to challenge F-15C pilots :)
