Snacko Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I have been using JSGME for the last few years. But I looked around the forums and net to see if ModMan still works with the current version of DCS World, and it looks like it has not been updated in years. So, is ModMan dead? Snack Officer Intel I9-10850K (OC @ 5.0ghz) │ 64GB (4x16GB) DDR4 3200 │Gigabyte RTX 4090 Gaming OC 24gb - ҉ - Blackshark Cockpit Trainer - ҉ - ♣ Thread | ♥ Download
cichlidfan Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I have never used Modman, but I am curious what it offered that JSGME does not. JSGME has not been updated in years either, but it doesn't need to be. Snacko Posted September 5, 2014 Author Posted September 5, 2014 (edited) Other than the obvious nicer user interface with thumbnails, descriptions, and mod categories. The main thing that I liked about it was that it had the ability to insert text/code into an already existing text file. You could replace or add a section of code at a certain point in the file. This would be really handy for adding lua code, and then removing it to update DCS World. Then after the update add it back in. That way you get the updated file, and can mod it with a click. At least that's what I remember it doing... but I haven't used it in about 5 years. PS: I think I remember that from how skins were installed. You needed to copy new image files, but also add/edit lines in a file to add the skins. Does it still work that way? cichlidfan Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Skins don't require file edits for adding new ones anymore, though, AFAIK, the old way still works. Thanks for the Modman info. I didn't realize it did all of that. Home Fries Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Modman works great with the folder structure present on BS1 and A-10C, but with some of the new folders in DCS World (Mods folder in particular) mods that use modman often leave temporary files in those folders that aren't removed when you disable a mod. No doubt that this is because the patch to make DCS World and BS2 compatible is more of a hexedit. Also, the new livery system in DCS World obviates the need for the CDDS manager. I used to do mods in both Modman and GME, but now I do mine exclusively in GME for these reasons. That said, if Skypat ever returns to the interwebs with a new version, I will wholeheartedly support it! -Home Fries My DCS Files and Skins My DCS TARGET Profile for Cougar or Warthog and MFDs F-14B LANTIRN Guide
