DieHard Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 What does the lettering markings and their corresponding line markings of 2km, 3km, 5km, 7km, and 9km refer to with the Fw 190 D-9's airspeed indicator? These markings are located on the periphery of the airspeed indicator gage. DCS Flight Manual (.pdf) Page 56. Is there a non-DCS manual(s) as reference that explains this? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Blech Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 (edited) Hi, Seems to be the maximal allowed dive-speed at km altitude http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=128594 Edited September 16, 2014 by Blech
Kodoss Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 That's correct. The Dora doesn't have a height compensated air speed indicator, which means in higher altitude it shows you a lower indicated air speed as you really have. To prevent damage to the plane, those markings give you the max. allowed dive speed at those heights.
effte Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Per definition it shows the indicated air speed (IAS). Your actual speed through the air, true air speed (TAS) will be higher than your IAS though, anytime you are above sea level. This affects things like Mach effects and flutter, which means you get lower IAS speed limitations at higher altitudes. ----- Introduction to UTM/MGRS - Trying to get your head around what trim is, how it works and how to use it? - DCS helos vs the real world.
