Gate-5 Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 I just started with the campaign and so far I failed miserably. I tried mission 2 (MIG21_EN_C_2N.miz) four times now and every time one of those sneaky Mig23's flanked on the left side and then got behind me (as shown in the tacview screenshot). Using the SPO and wingman calls I managed to dodge some radar guided missiles but everytime they got me with heat seekers afterwards (almost got a heart attack when hit while trying to get something on my radar screen :punch::D). In short I have no SA whatsoever. Did anyone manage to survive such kind of a mission? What would be the best tactic? So far I tried approaching the area at low altitude because the radar has no look down capability, but then I quickly run out of energy when merged. I got some lucky shots with heat seekers, but since its 5:00 in the morning its to dark to really see someting. Requesting bogey dope lulled me into a false sense of security since AWACS didn't see some enemies behind me and I was an easy target... any tips on what else to try?
Wizz Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 any tips on what else to try? Maybe the F-15C? :music_whistling::) 1
ruddy122 Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 (edited) I got blown out of the sky, and I modified the mission with a MiG-29 to figure what's going on. For the Mountain Hideout mission, the key is to fly the waypoints; particular waypoints 3-6 with your wingman intact and without getting jumped by the enemy MiG-21 BIS, the S300 Missiles, and the SA-13 threat. If you try to dogfight you will either be shot down by the SAMs or get shot down by the 4 MiG-21's coming at you. The key to this mission is to fly the black line exactly and on timing, which becomes a real challenge in DR Navigation I'll post a Tacview of my flight later to show what I did and a flight log of my DR legs. Hope this helps. ruddy122 Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Here's the Trackfile file of the mission MIG21-EN-C-2U.miz which you can convert to Trackview once you run the replay. Got a mission success by just following the route Let me know if this helps. :pilotfly:BIS02-Fulcrum.trk [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] LUCKY:pilotfly::joystick: Computer Specs CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 6-Core 3.4 GHz| GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 6Gb | RAM: 32 GB DDR4 @ 3000 MHz | OS: Win 10 64 bit | HD: 500 Gb SSD
Gate-5 Posted September 27, 2014 Author Posted September 27, 2014 @ruddy122 Thanks for your reply and track. I was kind of confused first but then realized that your track is not the same mission as the one I mentioned, its the 2U version and I was trying 2N . But anyways I will try it again, this time with the correct heights and timing for the WPs. I think the Mig23 went defensive and turned left and down so it was pointing directly at me. If I'd be higher I might be able to overfly the enemy and then approach from they'r 6.
Gate-5 Posted September 27, 2014 Author Posted September 27, 2014 :surrender: failure number 7.... flying the exact route and switching to daytime didnt help... There are some enemy planes showing up on my radar, but since I never know they'r height I loose them again, just to turn into a fireball 30sec later :disgust:
audax Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 In this mission I used the dot-labels to see at least something. With them, I was able to go very low and dogfight in the mountains, splashing a Su-24M and a MiG-23, the rest of the enemies was killed by my allies. Of course, without the labels I couldn't have survived the dogfight because I wouldn't be able to see them at all.

I myself had to turn on label since DCS Mig21 because I barely see enemy until got my ass kicked (AI can 'see' you even you are at his 6' low, what an advantage). Dot label / smart scaling is a fair option for Human vs AI.
