Aginor Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 (edited) Hey guys! EDIT: Dammit! this is about the MiG-21 of course, please move it, mods! :) I'm still enjoying the heck out of the MiG-21, so cool. :) Some people wrote that the landing behaviour changed a bit in the last patch so I gave it a spin and tried some landing practice with different loads and stuff. So basically approach, touch-and-go, circle, rinse and repeat. That's when it happened. On the second or third try my gear just wouldn't retract anymore. I put it into the down position again, locked it, unlocked it, put it up again. Nothing happened. So I'm almost certain I damaged it in some way, although it looked ok from the outside. It was stuck in the down and locked position. I see two possibilities a the moment: - perhaps by landing too rough (although I'm pretty sure I was under 0.5m/s vertical and under 350km/h horizontal) - perhaps used it wrong? I think I clicked on the gear handle with the wrong mouse button once or twice. Can I damage the gear mechanism by putting the gear handle up, neutral and down quickly after one another? I'm not sure if this is a bug or whether I did something wrong. I can try and reproduce it, it happened to me at least twice. (unfortunately I didn't keep the first track, and I don't have the second one because the game crashed). EDIT: Also is there a maximum landing weight? Can I land with three almost full external fuel tanks or should I dump fuel by afterburning around the air base? Any ideas? Justin Case Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 I think it's the maximum landing weight restricting you, check the manual. With no stores you're not supposed to land with more than 700 liters in the internal tank, it's very limiting! http://www.masterarms.se A Swedish Combat Flight Simulator Community.
samba_liten Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Could it be that you ran out of compressed air?
tomcatter Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 That happened to me last night, flying touch-and-go patterns, on the third touch, when I pull the gear up, one leg of the main remained down and locked. I then climb to a safe altitude and try to cycle the gear, nothing, the same leg remain stuck, so I made an emergency or very soft landing with no problem. In fact that third touch was a hard one, with a greater sink rate than supposed and a little correction roll to the left, so I though I touch down with that left gear only and damaged it. Only time that happened to me so I didn´t think of a bug, more that I have not land within the aircraft limits and I damage it. What made me think of how well this simulator is done
lmp Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Table 52 on pages 32 through 34 lists various landing gear related limitations, including max unstick and touchdown speeds, maximum weights, maximum speeds at which it's allowed to retract/extend it etc.
Aginor Posted October 17, 2014 Author Posted October 17, 2014 I also thought of the possibility with the lack of compressed air, but the manometer looked good, and I hadn't used much air anyway (no brakes used since I was in the air already at teh start of the mission, and I put the gear handle to neutral immediately after the gear was in after the touch-and-go. I think it is the weight. I had 3600 litres of fuel loaded.... :music_whistling: DCSW weapons cheat sheet speed cheat sheet
Tetra Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Seems the gear can become damaged, brushing the tail on the runway during takeoff or as others have said having too high descent speed on touchdown can both break the gears ability to retract. Blutwolf Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 (edited) Check this out. My wheels are glitching into the Ground and jumping out making the plane shaking violently on landing. Should be the same Problem on Takeoff. http://s14.directupload.net/images/141024/jkclbvk3.jpg Edited October 24, 2014 by Blutwolf
