mfishco Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Hello, Since I can't find anything on this forum on this topic I'm certain that there is something fundamental I'm not getting about this, but I'm attempted this mission (both as part of the campaign and individually) a dozen times and fail at the same spot every time. After I'm cleared to take off I rotate off the runway, settle into a 180 knot climb after cleaning up the aircraft. My course is 300 degrees. About 30 seconds after takeoff I receive a warning from the instructor that I'm off course. About 10 seconds later, the instructor terminates the training. I've watched the compass on the hud, made sure the CDI is locked on to waypoint 2 and is showing a 300 degree heading to the waypoint. I'm dead on the little green course line on the TAD. It's a little frustrating to get shut down and not understand what I'm doing wrong. I suspect it has something to do with my climb profile but if so, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong there. Anyone have any advice for me? Mitch
Sabre-TLA Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 (edited) I recommend you watch Recon Stewart`s . Likely you are going off course some dramatic amount so the FE is terminating the mission. If something`s changed in the game engine that has broken the mission I`ll fix it. I`ll test the mission against the latest DCS World version tonight and see if anything has changed. Just tested the mission in the latest version of DCS World and it played fine. What version of DCS World are you using? mfishco Posted October 18, 2014 Author Posted October 18, 2014 Hey, thanks for the quick response. I'm flying the steam version, but can put the time into making the switch to the DCS version if you think it will make a difference. I've wanted to anyway but ran into key issues and just never took it all the way. I watched that video you linked. Again, this must be me, but I don't see what I'm doing that is any different from what I see from wheels up through the second waypoint. I just don't make it that far. I'll spend some extra time studying the course stuff I see in the video and see if what I'm doing is somehow different. I ran into the same thing in BFT03, BTW. Everything was good through the first part of the pattern right up until I turned left to 300 to enter downwind. Sort of a coincidence that it is 300 degrees again, but I turned to 300, seemed to be right on the course line as indicated both on the CDI and the TAD but was warned and disqualified within 15 seconds. Odd. Is there some information I can convey to the fourm members that might help me understand how I'm messing this up? Mitch
Sabre-TLA Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 I know in an earlier version of DCS World ED changed a heading trigger that caused the missions to fail so they had to be updated to work with the new change. I recommend you update to the latest DCS World version and see if you still have an issue. The latest DCS World version has other bug fixes that could resolve other issues you might have in future. mfishco Posted October 20, 2014 Author Posted October 20, 2014 Thanks for the steer towards DCS World. Problem solved. The mission works fine there. Glad I made the move anyway. Had a ton of fun with the p-51!!! Mitch
Shane45 Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Hi Sabre, I've managed to get thru a few of the qualifying missions, but the one that is bugging me the most, is the instrument landing at night at Batumi. the first attempt at landing after getting a vector from Bat ATC, is no problem, it's the 2nd one thats causing me grief, in that I can't make a sharp enough turn onto 120 because i can't see my pitch ladder and therefore end up being terminated for going below pattern Alt, I haven't got the most up to date stick setup, but it's adequate, it's that damn pitch ladder, if it stayed centered I think I'd be ok :) why is Batumi on a heading of 120 if the Runway 13 - 130, again trying to get the needles bang on means having to drift and keep getting the dreaded, terminate x3, or coming in sideways like the an RAF pilot. lol which is why us Brits call them crabair.
Sabre-TLA Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 BFT09 is a tough mission because of the weather and the FE always reminding you to turn to heading 120 :( Search the forums and you will likely find an explanation for why 120 was used. Recon Stewart has done a good job videoing his experience. You can view his video . I think each pilot figures out his own technique. When I can't see the pitch ladder I'll check the other instruments like the ADI to keep level. Good luck! MapleFlagMissions - Read Our Blog for Updates
