New to DCS. Looking for good reference drawings

Years ago, I flew helicopters on Microsoft Flight Simulator (versions '95 through FSX) and was active on the Hovercontrol site.

Lately I've been doing racing simulation (iRacing) but with the arrival of my Oculus DK2 tomorrow, I've gotten the bug to fly again and I'm trying DCS this time.

My first aircraft will be the Bell UH-1H. My dad was a door-gunner on these through two tours in Vietnam, so I'm very interested in learning this aircraft.

I've installed DCS and the UH-1H and I've completed the first two tutorials (startup, and hovering) plus a little flying around for fun. I'm impressed with how difficult it is... I was afraid it would be too "arcad-ey" for my taste but it turned out to be just what I was looking for: A true "sim."

Right now, I'm trying to create a reference image for the startup procedure. I found a decent drawing of the overhead panel and added circles and arrows to show the location of each switch (see attached.) I'd like to do something for the rest of the procedure but can't find a good, clear drawing to use for the other parts of the cockpit (central pedestal, etc.)

Does anyone know where I can get one?

The picture of the Caution Light Panel here is PERFECT:

I'd love to find a similar drawing for all panels in the cockpit. Does something like this even exist?

Thanks in advance for any help. I'm looking forward to getting back in the air! :pilotfly:

Oh... one more question for Oculus Rift users: How do you click things in the cockpit while using the Rift? Do you "aim" with your head and click a button when the crosshairs are over the switch, or do you use the mouse to select it?

You might experiance some Frame rate loss with the OR, but it depends on your system.

With the referance drawings, you could always take screen shots if you place the camera inthe right place....

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

There are screenshots in the manual, but not too many schematic representations. But I fear, those will be hard to find anyways - I would guess, there are about as many different panel configurations as there are Hueys in the world ... you will probably not find the schematics that match exactly our Huey.

But I would suggest, you save your time scribbling onto such schematics anyways. After one or two more days you will already have figgured out where to find what in the cockpit - the Huey has not really a complicated cockpit. Just search for Huey checklists here on the forums - I bet, those will suffice perfectly. (Or develop your own checklist - personally I found this a good way to learn the systems involved and the layout of the cockpit when I got the MiG-21 :o)

I'm sure I'll learn it pretty quickly, but I'd still like to have it for reference. Especially for those times when I go on hiatus and come back feeling lost. I was really hoping the drawings like the one I linked to would exist for the whole aircraft. Looks like I might be out of luck though.

When you setup and test the rift please post your impressions. Thinking to buy it but then I read that they have produced a newer version (codename Crescent Bay) and maybe wait for that one.

Thanks
