[NO BUG] Infra red seeker locks on center-fuselage of large aircraft rather engines

DCS: MiG-21BIS v1.2.11.34087

Infra red seeker seems to lock on center-fuselage of large aircraft, rather than their engines (primary heat source).

This makes sense for fighter aircraft as they all have engine exhausts aft center-fuselage but for large aircraft I'm not sure this makes as much sense.

Because of this, the IR missiles always hit center-fuselage (rudder/elevator).

On a quick note, a super quick fix would be for the Devs to place transparent, active flares at the point of each engine exhaust on the game model (while setting default engine temp. to zero). It'd work as a temporary fix anyway?

yes you're right, big 2-4+ engined bombers with no engine in the tail, they still hit the rudder....

My youtube channel Remember: the fun is in the fight, not the kill, so say NO! to the AIM-120.

In the reality the piper will not lock anywhere, the lock is confirmed only by sound the piper stays rock solid, or even does not have to be turned on to achieve an IR lock. The hit is an other thing. In fact there is usually no hit the proximity detonation always comes first based on electromagnetic, light, acustic, radioelectronic signal depending on the design of the rocket, so do not expect the missile to fly into the engine :)

This is a global problem not limited to the MiG-21. All IR missiles on all planes go for the tail in DCS. That doesn't make it any less annoying but we can't expect LNS to do anything about it. It's an issue for ED.
