Hey guys. After my last thread, I've finally got DCS World installed, and the A-10C module installed successfully. I have to start the Georgian Hammer campaign all over, but that's not big deal, so if I get any more serious crashes, I'll post again, but...

In the bottom of my DCS World home screen, my version number is 1.2.3.10201.

Is this the currently-up-to-date version of DCS World?

I ask because the only modules available for purchase on the bottom of the home screen are A-10C (purchased and installed), Combined Arms, FC3, Ka-50 2, P-51D, and Su-25T (included). There's no option for the Fw-10D, F-86, Bf-109K, MiG-21, Huey, Mi-8, etc., only those listed above.

Selecting Update from the Start menu, or executing <dcs_updater.exe update> from the cmd only brings up the "Searching for Updates" window, then nothing. Only once did it find a new update, and downloaded it, but apparently didn't install. Can someone shed some light on this for me? Thanks!!

The current version is 1.2.12.34915.571

So, yeah, you are a bit outdated with your installation. :o)

I've seen this occassionally that the autoupdater somehow does maybe update the modules, but not the base install of DCS itself. Please post the autoupdate_log.txt from the DCS installation directory here so we can verify that this is the issue.

Thanks for the reply, Flagrum. Here's the log, as requested.

This is a bit odd ... at least for me.

What I was looking for was this line:

=== Log opened UTC 2014-12-07 23:28:42
INFO : DCS_Updater/2.3.6.47 (Windows NT 6.1.7601; Win64; en-US)

But it contains the module "WORLD". So that looks not too bad.

But then, your next attempts resulted in some sort of error. Maybe the autoupdater could not connect to the server ...?

But now it also lacks the WORLD module!? Maybe c0ff should investigate here a bit more in depth ...?

But then another odd thing:

=== Log opened UTC 2014-12-08 05:15:12

The autoupdater itself got updated to the most current version. But that version is already the current version for several weeks, if not months. So why did it NOT got updated? Obviously the autoupdater process is not really stuck so that nothing is happening anymore. Instead, repeated Repair DCS runs seem to do "something" at least. Sometimes.

Now I am confusing you probably even more, eh? Sorry ... so, what to do next? I would now try to run the Repair DCS one or two times more and then let's check back the autoupdater_log.txt again.

You can try to apply a fix for the missing "WORLD" module, but I am hesitating to really suggest this now. Because we still don't really know what is exactly going on on your system. And even if it would all work correctly, there were quite some significant changes for WORLD since 1.2.3 and would require some substancial downloads. Maybe it is therefore better if you do a complete new installation of DCS World? Then you would be on the safe side at least that all settings are good.

But if you would insist to just get the module "WORLD" going again (i.e. as last attempt before re-installing everything anyways), go to http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=114030 and look up how to install a module (section "Using DCS_Updater to Install a Specific Module:") and do that for "WORLD".

edit:

OR ... contact c0ff and let him see this thread. I just realized that the version number in the first snipped of the log (the green marked line) is missing. That is REALLY odd. So perhaps c0ff might want to examine this in more detail - to track down the occassionally occuring error with the missing WORLD module entry.

Flagrum, I tried repairing three times, and updating twice. No joy. Repairing just brought up this window for around two seconds. The last thing I remember it saying was "Cleaning up." Selecting "Update" brings up a similar window for maybe a quarter of a second.

I'll attach the updated updatelog with this post.

As for the re-installing, all these problems come off a fresh re-install of DCS World. What happened was, I was having CTD issues during the Georgian Hammer campaign, and while waiting for a response on a separate forum (which I still haven't gotten), I attempted to free up some HD space by un-installing my old stand alone copy of Black Shark. After uninstalling it, There was no entry for DCS World in my start menu, and I didn't have a desktop shortcut, so I re-installed DCS World, and that's where all the problems started.

At first, DCS World would install, but wouldn't start, and would give me either no response (Desktop Shortcut), a missing .dll error message (Start menu), or an error message with alot of 0's in the error code (Launcher.exe). Only after I had repaired it via the Start menu was I able to make it this far.

Essentially, now you're caught up. I didn't have a single problem installing DCS World, or DCS A-10C the first time around, and it's really frustrating (at no fault to you, just the situation), because I really miss flying the A-10, and it's only been about a week and a half.

All of your help is sincerely and greatly appreciated.

...Now that I re-read this, when I said I never got a reply on the other forum, I'm referring to a different forum site altogether that no response came from, NOT my older thread from a few days ago on this site. I probably got the point across, but better safe and try to not make anyone upset here, than sorry.

The last entries in the log file seem fairly "normal" now - besides the absence of the WORLD module. The reported version number(s) are correct and the current ones.

As for reinstalling: if I understood you right, then you did not uninstall DCS World itself before re-installing? In this case, I would recommend to uninstall it first so you start over with a clean system. You should probably also delete (rename) the DCS folder under C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games.

Or, as I said earlier, you might now want to try to manually install the missing WORLD module (refer to the other thread I linked to).

Actually, I don't think I ever did un-install World, because there was no Start menu option (the Start menu directory under Eagle Dynamics was empty), and the C:/Program Files/Eagle Dynamics/ directory was empty, so I just did another installation.

As for the thread you linked, I tried installing from there. I did <cd\> then <cd program files\eagle dynamics\dcs world\bin> then <dcs_updater.exe install world>, but it brought up an error box that said, "Unknown module world." Is that the incorrect command to install the World module?

To be honest, I haven't really used these commands myself - so I am not that familar with this ...

But there are other threads somewhere about the very same issue - that is where I got that information from. You might want to research them yourself - or I post a link here if I manage to find them again.

I've done quite a bit of searching myself, but either the problem is still unresolved, or the prescribed steps don't work for me. I'll keep looking, though.

I gotta go - work is calling. But one last idea - I seem to remember that the spelling is important. So, did you write WORLD (all uppercase)? Worth a try at least ...

Good luck!

Thanks, Flagrum. I'm doing an un-install, then a full re-install of DCS World, so I'm starting ENTIRELY from scratch. I'll see how that goes. Cheers, and don't work too hard!!

The fresh install did it. DCS World is now up to 1.2.12.34915.571. My A-10 module is now re-installed, but all my pilot info is gone. I'll start the campaign over, and as I said earlier, if I encounter any more serious crashes, I'll start another thread with my crash logs.

Thanks for all the help. It really is greatly appreciated!!

"Missing WORLD" issue seems to be related to the DCS World installer failing on some systems.

It does not register WORLD as installed.

A fix is on the way - coming to Open beta in a couple of hours. Open beta should not suffer from this issue, though...
