Anatoli-Kagari9 Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 (edited) How great it would be to have a Time Machine, and teach ww2 pilots through DCS World :) They could, just like us, keep practicing until they could manage 4 circuits in sequence without crashing, plus that importante glider practice of course! Then they would make their first ( forced ) solo flight in their real fighters... I'm finally "proficient" taking of and landing this bitch! Picking the p51d feels the same as picking any MSFS or X-Plane aircraft for a ride when I first started using DCS and the p51d... piece of cake :) Edited December 8, 2014 by jcomm Flight Simulation is the Virtual Materialization of a Dream...
rrohde Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 I really fail to understand how towards the end of WWII the young German pilots were effectively trained on these extremely powerful (and obviously hard-to-handle) late-war 109s and 190s fighters? Are there any books or other sources available that go into detail of how this was done? The loss of planes and aspiring pilots must have been huge. The loss of planes and aspiring pilots must have been huge. I´ve read somewhere that there were higher casualties during take offs and landings than during air combat. Don´t know though where and so can´t provide a source - maybe someone can confirm or expose this as not true. >> DCS liveries by golani79 <<
5tuka Posted December 8, 2014 Posted December 8, 2014 Teaching jung rookies to become fighter pilots via a virtual simulation is like teaching your kids playing soccer with FIFA, it just doesn't really match it. Good pilots didn't oly need to overcome the plane and the weather, they also needed to overcome themself both mentally as well as physically to profession their skills, otherwise they had low chances of survival.
