Hey guys,

I need a USB Hub for stuff like Thrustmaster Hotas and MFDs, TrackIR5, Saitek rudders and so on, I was searching around the internet and found that one:

Can someone recommend this or a different? It should have atleast 10 Ports and a external power supply.

Also I dont really know what kind of USB should I get. My PC has 2 USB3.0 and a few USB 2.0 ports on the back. What would you get?

Many thanks and pls excuse if that kind of threat was started hundrets of times.

Get USB 2.0, some things don't like USB 3. Don't waste money on the switches or the charging port. The more ports you have the less power each one is likely to have so just get what you need port wise.

As for brands, anything with a decent review count.

One more thing...

About the only time I would be really concerned about the quality/speed/performance of a hub, would be if I were connecting storage devices (i.e. USB drives). While some hubs might perform slightly better speed-wise, for game controller applications, the differences will probably not be significant.

I have a number of USB hubs, many from Amazon, and I usually just buy based on reviews and price (or a duplicate of one that I already have).

EDIT: Oh yes, congrats on the new Warthog!!

I think USB 2.0, powered, with individual switches is the way to go.

Otherwise, USB 3.0 hub plugged on USB 2.0 port should work as well (except maybe for the TrackIR, see below).

From my personal experience, the USB 3.0 hub (*) worked well with Warthog, Saitek rudder and cougar MFD (I even updated the WH firmware through it).

Only thing worth noting is that I unplug all the peripherals that are on the hub once the sim session is finished as I had some instability when the devices were plugged all the time - maybe because I was on the computer USB 3.0 port at the time until I plugged it on a USB 2.0 port.

Having individual switches would have made this easier.

If you have concerns about the USB 3.0 interface (which can be a problem with windows 8.1), you can plug your USB 3.0 hub on a usb 2.0 interface since they are backward compatible.

If you don't have USB 2.0 ports the USB 3.0 features can be usually disabled from the BIOS (xHCI mode).

For the trackIR to work correctly however, stick to USB 2.0 port - non hub if possible, this beast is very touchy, I had a lot of issues while I was using it from the hub, I don't know if it's a power issue, protocol or maybe ESD.

(*) U-Speed 7 port, powered.

My TIR has been plugged into a USB 2.0 powered hub since the very first day I hooked it up, over three years ago. Computer is on 24/7 too.

EDIT: I am not against switches in hubs, as I have one with switches myself, but if they aren't needed/wanted for the particular application, I prefer to not have them present.

also look for one that has .5 amps per usb port at least. so that one may not be good. should have a 5 amp capable power supply

Hi Griffon,

I just bought one myself. I went for USB 2.0, because I heard of misc. problems with the TM Warthog with USB 3.0.

So far it works like a charm with everything on it (TM Warthog, PSEyeCam, Pedals, etc.):

Thanks for the answers and thanks cichlidfan for the congratulations ;)!

So the thing I found out till now is: Its quiet horrible what you need to know about a simple USB Hub :)

Ok I found one on Amazon (english link):

http://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Technology-Chipsets-backwards-compatibility/dp/B00483WRZ6/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420408101&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=Plugable+USB+2.0+10+Port+Hub+mit+12%2C5W+Netzteil+f%C3%BCr+EU+und+GB+%28Terminus+Technologie+FE1.1a+und+2.1+Chipsatz.+Windows%2C+Mac+OS+X+und+Linux+Unterst%C3%BCtzung.+Abw%C3%A4rtskompatibel+mit+USB+1.1+und+Aufw%C3%A4rtskompatibel+mit+USB+3.0%29

The point is, that it has just 2,5A power supply. Could I add one with more Ampere or will it end in a firework? Electronics arent my special field :helpsmilie:

@Bexx0r thanks for recommending but I need 10 ports for all the stuff - just flight sim equipment and USB interfaces no HDDs or sticks! The things i wanna add on this HUB (plugs in brackets): Thrustamster HOTAS (2), Thrustmaster MFDs (2), Saitek rudder pedals (1), TrackIR5 (1), Arcaze USB Interface (1) and maybe a Arduino board (1). So it will make 8 Ports needed.

So the biggest problem will be the power it needs I think. Btw: I dont need flashing or dazzling leds with an atomic ray ;)
