Hi,

Picked up the MIG before xmas, And although I noticed it didn't run as well as other module I didn't really have any problems, with fps above 30 in most cases.

After Xmas I started the campaign, I got to the big air battle with bandits from the east. As soon as I see the contrails from my own side, FPS drops to 10 and does not change with GFX settings at all. As soon as move the camera away from the formation, FPS goes up-to around 50.

I ran the mission through the editor and reduced the fighter groups by 50%, mission became somewhat playable, though still not great.

Made an instant mission with similar number of A/C and performance is much better.

I'm running a 8320 @ 4.3ghz. 16gb RAM and a GTX 770 4gb. I know the AMD cpu's are not fab, but i would expect something better, no other module runs quite this bad, but do get down to around fps with busy battles.

Any tips on increasing the performance or do I need to wait until EDGE comes out, which will hopefully alleviate my CPU of some of the GFX work.... Would be a shame as the MIG is my favorite module!!

Thanks

I got a similar configuration (but with less RAm) and I have the exact same issue. DCS Graphic settings don't seem to have any effect. I found this mission really hard. You have to slug it out against MiG-23 and even 29's sometimes! I don't think the MiG -21 is up to the task. It is even harder with the low Fps in this mission. The only way i was able to pass is to open it up with the misdionbuilder and add a flight of F-14's with AIM-54's and a few more SAM sites. And by using pause and F5 a lot.

I don't think 'they' (ED and leatherneck) will be spending much time on improving this engine anymore. Let's hope EDGE can bring some improvement for us.

I bottom out at about 30 fps in that mission, this is with an I5 4690 (stock clock, 3.5GHz base), 8GB DDR3, and a GTX 770 2GB. Notice I get 3x the fps with a similarly priced CPU and the budget version of the GTX 770. That's how much DCS hates AMD. In any case, not much can be done sadly (my previous CPU was an AMD). This is a problem with DCS itself that the MiG-21 exacerbates.

The issue is the graphics are done mostly on a single core on the cpu rather than the GPU. The end result is your graphics card, RAM and overall CPU performance are borderline irrelevant. The main thing that matters is the single thread performance on the CPU. The FX8320, though a great processor overall, scores poorly on single thread performance.

EDGE should be sorting out this limitation, but there really isn't any telling when that will be released. Until then, there is nothing you can do sadly. My own experience using an Athlon II 640 (3Ghz quad core, similar single thread performance to a 3Ghz FX series) is that resolution and graphics settings have less than 10% influence on FPS.
