Glimmerman Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Friend of mine has issues with each released game update that all of his customized profiles are screwed up and or missing, do more people have this and what can be done about it? he is quite pissed about it cause it took him hours to set them all up as he flies in sim/real mode for most aircraft.
Yurgon Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 The controller config is divided into two parts. Part 1 comes with the game and is stored in the installation directory, usually C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\aircraft and then a subfolder for each of the different flyables. These config files contain all the available switches, buttons, axes and so on. They may get overwritten by an update, but the structure and filenames are mostly kept the same. Part 2 stores only the user-applied differences. That way, when the config files themselves are changed, the differences should still be applicable. These diff-files are typically saved in C:\Users\{Your Windows Username}\Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input My guess would be that, for whatever reason, these diffs get deleted during an update, although that should not happen. I would definitely backup the entire Saved Games\DCS folder. When the next updates breaks all the profiles again, I'd simply move the backup back into place and see if the profiles re-appear. There's probably a reason why updates break the config and the best solution would be to get rid of the underlying problem, but I don't know what would cause that behavior. Hopefully someone else has an idea about that.
dannyq8 Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Pretty standard with DCS updates and this along with incomplete information in the change logs makes it essential, as Yurgon says, to backup your Saved games\DCS folder Sorry, not much help but I feel your friends pain. Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools because they have to say something. Plato
