Hey guys,

Last night one of my friends showed me that maybe it's better to configure the keystrokes via the DCS controllers options and not using the CH profiler like I did till now.

For Falcon BMS it's necessary for me to use the profiler because I use scripts. But if I think about it, maybe for DCS it's irrelevant and heavy on the hardware flash memory.

Now, since it's "complicated" to download a new profile to the CH hardware every time I fly a different module.. Should I use the direct mode for DCS modules?

What do you think ?

I've used only direct mode with my CH gear, configuring each DCS module from the in-game settings. I am not sure if it is "better" than using profiles, just works out for me.

Mostly it is a matter of personal preference, plus a bit of 'can you do what you need/want to do without a profile?'.

For myself, using TM gear, I prefer using profiles because there is little or no chance that changes to the sim will impact them. The changes in v1.2.8 broke every, in game, saved profile for every aircraft, however, my Target profiles continued to function just fine (with the exception of the A-10C due to it's own issues).

Good point, cichlidfan.

That's one reason why it's PROFILE for me.

One other reason is programming in layers:

If you use the pinky-button as shift-function, you can map twice as many macros to your HOTAS. That makes up for the buttons that you don't use in the real HOTAS, like zoom, using mirrors and stuff. I also got eject, mastercaution, some CMSP-elements and lighting-control mapped.

You can also use the profile for adjusting input-parameters and more complex scripting, as well as switching between input-profiles (e.g. one for normal flight operations, one for air-to-air-refueling, etc.)

Actually I use 3 layers in my BMS profile (and I love it! ), but from my usage with DCS the maximum number of layers is 2, so I can use the in-game shift modifier. Therefore - no need for DCS profiles.
