Haha... yup! The detail will be amazing. especially at larger TV sized screens. But I think I have hit and crossed by PC build budget for a few years. lol.

Not so quick there -- what's your "cockpit chair" solution? Obutto? Playseat? ...something else? Because that's also my next dilemma and money should flow there, too. :D

is there something your i7-2600k@4.63GHz can't handle that the newer cpu will? )))

Absolutely NO !!!

I keep the CPU, Mobo, PSU, LCD, as I got that for free from a business customer when he renewed his stuff before Xmas, all I needed was a new Nvidia, RAM and SSD, I had all the rest.

SO I went with this:

GTX 980 Poseiedon

16GB 2400MHz DDR3

Samsung 850 Pro 256x2

I am looking into this water-cooler system:

http://www.watercool.de

MO-RA3 Radiator 4 x 180mm 900rpm fans PWM

Rev4 CPU cooler

Mobo heatkiller

Eheim Pump

I called them up and asked for a quote for what I need to wc as much as possible, CPU+GPU+MB

with the lowest noise possible and enough power to cool a 2nd GTX if EDGE demands it.

I have to postpone the 27" QHD screen for this, but I can live with this compromise as HD on 27" is not that bad that I can't stand it, for sure 4k would be nice.... next year when LCD prices become normal for 4k screens.

Wife must not know !!! DO NOT TELL !!!

LOL

i think that is an overkill nowadays, same as RAM watercooling, unless you're overclocker that is only interested in overclocking over anything else.

i would suggest to do your own research on pumps, cpu waterblocks and radiators, can't fully trust sellers on that matter, they've got their own interest in the game.

that poseidon thing, can the fans be turned off if using water? or will they be another source of noise?

I am looking and reading reviews for watercooling systems for 3 month now and I want to cool both the CPU and GPU with 1 system and 1 loop, thats why I cant go with Corsair closed-loop setups, despite I would like to do so but the Poseidon has 1/4" fittings and I need a modular based system.

The mainboard capacitor cooling blocks are ESSENTIAL if you take the CPU fan away !!! Those CAPs are cooled by the CPU fan and if you take that thing away plus raise the voltage you better keep them cool.

The other solution would be to buy a new mobo to fit the new socket so I can buy another i7 4790 to get to 4+ GHz and that wont be cheaper than the WC setup to reach 4.5GHz+. In addition, the hookup for the GPU only needs 2 fittings and some hoses. All in all it's cheaper than buying new.

I also went with an external radiator for 4 x 180mm fans so I dont have anything inside the case, well, not anything, but as little as possible and the external beast is way bigger with 72 meters of copper inside. Chilling cold with little rpm :)

I have not overclocked since the days of my Pentium II with 266MHz and PIII with 550MHz. Ever since I saw no point in OC'ing till I came across DCS's lousy CPU usage and feel forced to overclock as hard as I can to get a fluent gameplay :( It's not that I want it, DCS needs it.

Knowing this and knowing how loud fan based cooling solutions are, coupled with a squeaking GPU fan I decided to let other stuff unanswered on my shopping list and go for a silent solution.

Yes, 600 bucks are hefty but I hate noisy PC's and I hope my stuff just lasts longer if I cool them properly.

All of my high end Video cards failed either during Warranty or shortly thereafter, ever since DX7 and the first Nvidia Gforce came out with T&L.

It seems to me that they built them to last just 3 years +/- and that's it and heat seems to be the #1 cause for them to fail early.

Afaik the fans keep blowing, but at a very modest rpm.

finished my PC. Ran into a snafu with motherboard bricked in the first half hour. Thankfully, I was able to restore the bios. The BIOS giving overclocking error without any overclocking. Then, windows updating and updates failing and windows 8 running worse than on my laptop. Finally, last shot before I tear everything down, I reformatted, installed windows 10 and no asus bloat apart from bare essential drivers. and DAMN its hot! :) Finally, what I expected. Running shadow of mordor at 84fps avg.

Enjoy the Wine pal !

I just had to finish a bottle of "Les Ormes de Cambras - Cabernet Sauvignon" that my sister, she has a house in France, got me.

Damn nice looking rig !!!

I will spend some time putting my new rig together, just hit all the order buttons ( that's why I had to drink the wine, OMG ).

MO-RA3 420LT Radiator

HeatKiller Rev. 4 Copper Edition CPU cooler

Eheim Ceramic Pump

+ lots of their ( watercool.de ) additional stuff to put it together

plus a nice Corsair Carbide 500R case, along with a complete Warthog Hotas/Saitek Combat rudders and Track IR5 complete set.

It's the man, not the machine, you may never forget that but it also should make fun and NO NOISE !!! haha

Delivery day for the parts is up the 20th this month, till then I may prepare, mentally LoL

I am using Win10 too, but only in VMware inside Mac OS-X.

I have to say, it looks way better than Win8 did ( I run 7 ) but I ask myself:

Is it ready to run DCS ??? Did you get all drivers, like Nvidia and Track IR, ™ Saitek etc... ???

Thanks Bit. Ya....its a fantastic silent rig. The fans on the GPU were all high from start, but the moment u install NVidia drivers...everything shuts down and goes nice and quiet. Its awesome. And coming from a laptop usage for over the last 12y, man its nice to use a beefy rig. I always had some sort of compromise in the hardware dept, but not this time. I take it its not an absolute overkill rig, but it is definitely extreme for what I have ever made.

Nice wine. I am not too much of a drinker, but this weekend, I had to get myself my first bottle. I have always had wine at conferences and social occasions, but never at home...and I have only ever tried pino, so I got this to try. Might have to get a sauvignon next time. The guy at LCBO was trying to give me a crash course on whites and sweetness etc. I never understood why they say pino is dry...I get it now. lol! because its min sweetness and almost just alcohol taste. lol. That's ok.. I like it. But I still can't do more than 5ounces a time.. not in a sense of I can't handle it, but I don't like it that much. :p

regd win 10, no problems man. All drivers work fine. I just tried a bit of warthog training to brush up on the cockpit controls. it works fine and looks fine.

Congrats on the 980 Poseidon btw... keep us posted when u get it. would love to see how it looks.

used to get 16-19fps in the cockpit here with old rig. :p and this is even with everything maxed, tree shadows, tsaa, full slider for small shit :p , tree preload etc. even mfd pages at 512.

Just FYI - took a snapshot of the Asus AI Suite from which I overclocked my CPU (instead of using the BIOS), and also manage the fans. This is my rig ideling (only Chrome in the background):

I didn't install the AI suite. On my first install I did and for some rason, windows 8 seemed very sluggish. The background EZupdate and all those other nonsense software was annoying...so I just kept to minimal driver installs only.
