Added this to a previous thread and got no reply so trying again in its own thread:music_whistling:

I have a Corsair CSSD-F120GBLS 7mm 120GB on order expecting it today.

I have 3 HDD installed and an intermittently working crucial M4 60Gb that needs upgraded firmware which I have failed in numerous attempts to instal.

The HDD's are 2x 160 Maxtors which I have partitioned into 1 striped raid array of 50gb X2 and 2 simple volumes.

A 1 TB Samsung is partitioned into 4, an 800Gb storage partition a 100mb system reserved a 55gb logical drive and 81Gb Boot and pagefile primary partition

I have presently DCS World running on the striped array and am wondering whether I should reinstal windows to the new corsair SSD and leave DCS where it is or put both on SSD.

Oh and I will be running the new SSD through an ASUS 6Gb PCI-E expansion card

Any thoughts or advice will be useful in helping make my choices

Thanks

I would highly recommend installing windows on the SSD. 120GB is a bit low. pretty much you will have only 40GB left after all things considered and regular use...without major software installs. With DCS reaching 36GB, I think you will soon hit the low space issue.

Personally..installing DCS on my SSD has made a difference to loading speeds... I use a Intel 730 series SSD. its fantastic. But the biggest difference is general windows 8 performance. You will almost feel like you are using a new PC. So..I think that should be the priority.

Thanks, since posting I installed the M4 into my son's PC and managed to get firmware updated.

If this stays stable and does not trip out as it did before firmware I will put my DCSW on it as a dedicated drive and have the OS on the new Corsair thats due soon:)

I presume thats going to be faster.

Using Crystal disk I have read speeds of 379.1 and write speeds of 104.7 on the M4

The Striped RAID gives 135.0 Read and 118.5 write.

How bizzarre. Are write speeds more use than read speeds?:helpsmilie:

Some initial test figures for load speeds if anyone is interested.

Using the huey instant action freeflight

Installed in a 80Gb partition on 1TB Samsung

Load time 2 mins 17 seconds

Pre cached load time 1 min 1 second

Installed in a striped Raid 100Gb partition on 2 120Gb Maxtors

Load time 1 minute 28.7 Seconds

Pre cached load time 55.6 Seconds

Installed in a 60Gb Crucial M4 SSD

Load time 57.0 Seconds

Pre cached load time 47.0 Seconds

Anyone thinking of investing in an SSD its really a no brainer:)
