tommytank Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Contemplating a monitor upgrade. PC is i7 with a AMD R7 250, driving two dissimilar monitors, 22" @ 1680x1050 (primary) and a 17", it works with good stable frame rates, but it isn't pretty. Thinking of upgrading to a single 27", will that improve performance at 1080 but will I just see the same pixels bigger, and conversely if I go to a 4k monitor, will I loose performance?
llama Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 4K is EXTREMELY brutal on video cards. Unless you have one of the top end current gen cards, I would stay away from it for now. Unless of course you are going to upgrade video cards =) I am currently running @1920x1080 on a 52 inch tv, which I upgraded from a 27" monitor. The monitor gave an excellent image, but wasn't big enough (that's what she said, before any of you sick gits jump on that one.....lol). To sum up, you should be fine with a 27" if you are sitting close. Will definitely be easier on the eyes than your current setup. goestrip Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 if you increase res, you will need more power for same fps of course. But you don't have to get up to 4K, you could stop at QHD: https://pcmonitors.info/articles/2560-x-1440-vs-1920-x-1080/ i'm using a 80cm HDTV (1920x1080) on my pc (and for dcs) and even if i got used to the light blur, i think i'm less efficient, i mean it seems i can't spot details in the distance as my friends do, so either it's my inability to do so, or my screen ...(be gentle, say it's the screen :megalol: ) so my conclusion, a reasonably priced 27" 2560*1440 screen....until the Ocullus rift comes out . Not worth investing more in screens anymore. ps: congratz for flying with the black bar in the middle of the FOV :music_whistling:
Sabre-TLA Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Once you go big you will never go back. I'm using a 47" LG TV using 1920x1080 HD and it looks and plays great (about an arm's length from my seat). You can spot targets much easier on the big screen. 4K will be awesome but you don't need it to play the sim currently. MapleFlagMissions - Read Our Blog for Updates
