TJTAS Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Hi, I'm trying to learn the Mig 21 and have been trying to go through the tutorials. In the AA missiles tutorials I follow the instructions, Set the SAU to Recovery, Set throttle to around 80%. But by about the time I get to the F-5 drone it flies me into the ground. Its like i'm constantly losing height while i'm busy following the instructions. Secondly the part about the switches goes on for too long and by the time it tells me there are friendly aircraft in front of me to try locking them up they are long past. Especially since the switches in question are already set in the tutorial.

Just run it again, and don't wait for the instructions, but go ahead, set it up, and shoot them down. No issues with the SAU here, but again, just keep an eye on things, and you can easily overcome those problems too. The key is, do you know how to launch missiles as a result of the tutorial?
Vitesse2l Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 I think the op may not be setting his throttle properly. I usually set it and then see what the airspeed indicator does. You get long enough with the captions to spend some time getting it right. As I remember there are several ai aircraft in the tutorial but the target drones spawn in with a bit of delay after the instructor caption. Since you could set airspeed over a wide range I wouldn't be surprised if the targets appear relative to your mig rather than at a set spot on the map. Anyway, hope the op works it out.
TJTAS Posted January 25, 2015 Author Posted January 25, 2015 Thanks for the replies. I think I've got the missiles worked out. My post was as much feedback for the devs as anything else. I followed the instructions given and came to grief. It seems worse if you restart the mission for some reason. I also had an inexplicable flame out one time i tried it.
Addewang Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Autopilot never manages your throttle for you in any aircraft that I know of: always manage throttle manually even if not expressed.
skendzie Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Just tried this tutorial yesterday and I ran into the same problems. I followed the guide as close as I could, twice, and I can never get the drones lined up without turning off the AP.
