wavn Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Is there for the GBU 38 (and also for the other GPS bombs) a minimum drop level?: I have the following experience: - at 10.000 feet, the GBU 38 bombs drops ok, - at 6.000 (also at 8.000) feet, the bombs don't drop. When this is a fact: is this conform the reality: should mean that you cannot fly (and drop bombs) at a low cloud ceiling level? Best regards, Willem
SilentGun Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 The bombs don't drop at 8000 feet? I can get rounds on target at 5000 feet. wavn Posted January 27, 2015 Author Posted January 27, 2015 (edited) What I did at low level (about 6.000 feet) was that, after the reticle left 12.00 o'clock anticlockwise, I instantly pushed the release button en stayed pushing until about 6.00 o'clock (same as at 10.000 feet): with that procedure, the bombs were not released. Now (at 6.000 feet), I only push the release button only after the message appears in the HUD: "man rel" and the bombs are released with good results  Also tried at 5.000 feet and, what you said Silentgun, Edited January 27, 2015 by wavn Best regards, Willem
ajsarge Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 There's no "minimum" for the JDAMS besides being above your target. I've run in at low level (<500ft AGL) with exact target coordinates linked to a GBU-31 via steerpoint, pulled back on the stick at the right time, and actually lobbed the bomb over a hill to keep the ground between me and SAM sites in the area.
Dejjvid Posted February 2, 2015 Posted February 2, 2015 As they told you there are no minimums. The only issue with low level is that your release window is smaller. As long as you are between the brackets, MAN REL show up, hold pickle, score. i7 8700K | GTX 1080 Ti | 32GB RAM | 500GB M.2 SSD | TIR5 w/ Trackclip Pro | TM Hotas Warthog | Saitek Pro Flight Rudder [sigpic]http://www.132virtualwing.org[/sigpic]
