WildBillKelsoe Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Do real bombs wiggle at 500+ mph? Cuz I've noticed that it wiggles right to left (yaw induced?) Or is it the lack of streamline in casing that causes this (compared to more streamlined Mk-82?) Or maybe lack of stabilising fins cause that? I've also noticed that at a drop speed of 500mph, target should be well below pipper (dive bombing) in line with wingspan dial top arc, or black portion of sight immediately below glass portion, and that rudder trim needs to be set before roll in (8 degrees right ?) to compensate for torque and GP and P-factor. Paradox Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I'm sure what you say is true but just like the radio navigation system I doubt it'll ever be looked at. Everyone seems much more interested in slotting doras and arguing about fuel types than simulating the aircraft and its weapons.
Gunrun_KS Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I'm under the impression that the GP bombs will have wiggle around the center point of gravity which would be the yellow line on the bomb. My guess is that as long as it is not tumbling like napalm or a jettison its fine. Most of the bomb footage I've seen, the bombs weren't very stable in flight. Maybe the characteristics would be similar? While we are on the topic, does anyone know if we will be getting different bomb loadouts? Small in the grand scheme of things though. WildBillKelsoe Posted February 4, 2015 Author Posted February 4, 2015 You mean like FAB-100 or practice bombs? Gunrun_KS Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 I was thinking different sizes of bombs for mostly the WWII prop planes. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] I7 4790K / EVGA 1080ti SC / 32GB DDR3 / 1TB SSD / Oculus Rift S / X-56 / MFG Crosswind V2 / ButtKicker + Simshaker for Aviators

Crumpp Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 This might help some. Here is the Terminal Ballistics of US bombs used during World War II. It also shows the fragmentation patterns and data for effect radius for attacking various German tank designs. While we are on the topic, does anyone know if we will be getting different bomb loadouts? I hope so... Bombs were the most effective aerial anti-tank weapon in World War II. 1 Answers to most important questions ATC can ask that every pilot should memorize: 1. No, I do not have a pen. 2.
