Ok, this is just a quick question...

Is AP bugged? A couple of times i've flown a mission but turned the AP on by mistake at the last minute.. usually something like heading or alt-hold... The problem is, sometimes my plane just barrel rolls and points down... almost as if it had turned into a manic depressive lemming..

Just now, I flew an SU25t mission and i hit AP by mistake. When I hit alt-9 to turn it off, the lights went out, granted but the plane was still trying to turn right as much as possible.. the unfortunate result was CFIT.

I tried pressing Alt-t as if the AP had fiddled with the trims but no dice..

So is this some long standing bug or what?

No, not a bud. What the autopilot is doing when you turn it on is it heads to the current waypoint you are set to. If it dived then you were probably above the altitude at which the AP was set to. And banking right or left is because it is trying to line up on the correct heading. If you are off to the right, then the plane will bank left and fly a heading until it gets with in a certain area of the true heading and straighten out once the path is aligned. Next time it happens take a look at your HUD, see what mode you are in. If in NAV mode then look at your HSI and find out how off course you are and watch the plane react. It should react to get you back on course. Hope this was understandable and helpfull

2. The autopilot has fiddled with the trim and you can't reset it in the su-25/t. Ither you have to trim it manually or you can use alt+3, let it stabilize and then disengage the autopilot.

After I switched to a FFB stick things have gotten more complicated, lockon simulates that the stick centration is moved when you trim the aircraft. The problem is that trimming manually has little effect on the sticks centration and generally makes it worse, alt+3 does not center the stick. So you're left with alt+1/§ which centers it somewhat if you line up the aircraft well. Anyone else experienced this with a FFB stick?

No bug. There's an Su-25T orientation flight on my website that, among other things, addresses the ACS--some (not all) of its modes and things to be wary of. If you haven't seen it, you might want to take a look.

As noted by others, when you turn the ACS off, you are left with the last trim input. So if it was trimmed for a climbing turn at the time, it remains trimmed for a climbing turn...until you retrim it. In keeping with the AFM of the Su-25 and -25T, there is no auto trim. You have to manually retrim. So you need to be aware of future short term needs before you push those ACS buttons.

I never use the autopilot I only fly the frog and find using it more trouble than its worth, I just trim when needed, although maintaining a given alltitude is very difficult like this, I dont really feel the need to stay within a 50 feet window...it just doesnt matter to me

as for using it to stabilise before weapon launch, as many recomend...... well I

have much greater success just flying the damn thing

oo err...missus:animals_bunny:

thanks Ironhand, I'll take a look later. I haven't had a chance to print off the whole of the manual yet, I'm doing it in chunks, but thankyou for the input over the trim all of you.

I'll just be careful to avoid hitting 'a' instead of 'shift-a' when i'm approaching the target area next time
