ED Team Groove Posted April 18, 2006 ED Team Posted April 18, 2006 Nice aerial photo. Is this a man made basin on the right side at the river ? Our Forum Rules: http://forums.eagle.ru/rules.php#en
Trident Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Maybe, but not necessarily. You see that rather often with meandering rivers when they erode and eventually break through the rock at the base of a loop. Of course, man frequently takes matters in his own hands when he canalises a waterway. So, what we're seeing is a former loop of the river cut off by either erosion or human canalisation.
Brit_Radar_Dude Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 If it is a meander loop in the river that the river itself has cut off and silt deposition has isolated, it is called an Oxbow Lake..... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxbow_lake [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Sorry Death, you lose! It was Professor Plum....
Trident Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Yes, that's what I'm talking about. It's called 'Altarm' or 'Totarm' (once it's no longer connected to the river) in German :)
