rbland Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 (edited) Is there any hud symbology / cockpit indicator that the ALQ-184 ecm is active in the A-10A ? I've searched these forums and manuals, but cannot tell if I've activated it or not. SAMs certainly give me no indication as I'm constantly blown from the skies. Strike that - found the ECM panel for which the toggle switch seems to be permanently on. I assume when the lights are on (various threat types) then it's active. Sorry if you're reading this !! Edited February 8, 2015 by rbland
EngineerFalcon Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 On your right horizontal panel, right next to your pilot's knee, there is a small 2x4 row of buttons. There should be a small yellow light in them when ECM off, blinking while warming up, and green while on. Keep in mind though, unlike in real life ECM in DCS is quite ineffective against SAMs. It works best as a way to buy time against distant fighters. Happy mud movin' ! 1
Exorcet Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 I'd argue the opposite. ECM is good for SAM's, but poor for fighters. ECM announces to the world where you are. SAM's (in the sim) can't do much with this information and their attack range is greatly reduced. Fighters on the other hand can come to you and their attack range isn't all that affected because of overall short missile ranges. Even if range was to increase, you'd need to worry about HOJ modes. Slow as the A-10 is, a HOJ shot will be easier to land. The only benefit you can be certain of with ECM is that it cuts down the range that AI radar guided SAM's shoot at you. Other than that it is very situational. vegue Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 (edited) See these screenshots to find ECM panel: Music on (panel marked with yellow box, two green indicators will flash): ECM jams radars (like radar homing missiles and Shilka AAA) until burned through. It won't work against IR missiles (like Strela and Igla) or optical aiming (like T-80's machine guns or BMP's auto cannons). Edited October 24, 2015 by vegue
