Bassly Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 I tried to search for any kind of correction on the radar target position indicators and found nothing. So, is the manual correct on the: Inverted T sign = Target above you. Combined inverted and T sign = Target on your level. T sign = Target below you. I'm getting quite opposite results between above and below. Is it the manual or the radar that is misleading here?

EngineerFalcon Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 In my experience, the radar is quite imprecise regarding contact height. "T", for example, appears very rarely, and targets on my level are often marked as "Inverted T", over me. So yes, the manual is accurate, the radar is not :megalol: Usually if I need to be level with something I lock it up for a second, since the radar seems to be more accurate that way.
Flagrum Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 "T", for example, appears very rarely, (...) The radar has very limited look-down capabilities. Iirc it is only -1.5° and therefore it is not really surprising that you can't see many targets below you when you are usually flying level.

Are you sure about that ? When you click the IFF button the only symbols are - and =, height information shouldn't be appearing.

Bassly Posted February 12, 2015 Author Posted February 12, 2015 No science here, but I did set a test mission with one Su-27 flying 900km/h directly towards me on various altitudes. Right after mission start I set myself into active pause and let the Su-27 fly on my radar. Lines are not dead accurate, but the results were well... For the last a random picture from multiplayer of a player F-15C, no one else over there. My nose was pointing ahead of him whole climb. Got only a T. Kept pushing nose down for inverted T, no hope. Angle looks bit extreme because of the delay I guess. It went blank on the next scan. Only thing I can do right now is scratch my head and throw my eyes out of the window. In manual I believe. :book:
xxJohnxx Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Thank you Bassly for the write up! Good work! For the last a random picture from multiplayer of a player F-15C, no one else over there. Just keep in mind that the radar is pitch and bank angle stabilized 30° in all directions. That means that the radar will keep level and at a constant pitch to the horizon as long as you don't exceed pitch or bank values. Kobymaru Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Nice Post Bassly! I stole one of the Images for my collection, if that's OK with you. So apparently, they *are* inverted.

tsb47 Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Oh yeah. That's a very important thing to take into account when using the radar. Don't mind too much on the red circle, I just threw it somewhere on the dashboard and tapped on the manual. All yours. I have the same problem. The radar is not consistent in showing contacts above as an inverted T, contacts as the same level as +, and contacts below as T. While I can lock to get pitch info on the target, this obviously has its drawbacks (ie, you lose search mode, alert the target to take action, buddy spike friendlies etc). Would someone from Leatherneck be able to comment on the radar? Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit | i7-4790K@4GHz | 8GB RAM | GTX970 347.52
