Dudikoff Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 Great post, McP. I feel the same. I really hope ED changes something for their next sim. When we had Flanker 2.5, the thing I wanted most (besides additional planes) was mission editor/campaign engine total rework to allow branching campaigns and much better immersion. What we got is much improved graphics, additional planes, etc. but what should in fact give life to this simulation, practically stayed the same. i386DX40@42 MHz w/i387 CP, 4 MB RAM (8*512 kB), Trident 8900C 1 MB w/16-bit RAMDAC ISA, Quantum 340 MB UDMA33, SB 16, DOS 6.22 w/QEMM + Win3.11CE, Quickshot 1btn 2axis, Numpad as hat. 2 FPH on a good day, 1 FPH avg. DISCLAIMER: My posts are still absolutely useless. Just finding excuses not to learn the F-14 (HB's Swansong?). Annoyed by my posts? Please consider donating. Once the target sum is reached, I'll be off to somewhere nice I promise not to post from. I'd buy that for a dollar!
Andrew_McP Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 I was kidding. Git! You owe me 20 minutes of my life. Next time use a smiley or something... I can't hear irony from this side of the planet! :-) Andrew McP
JEFX Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 Andrew great post! (tu es en feu!) I agree with you totally and you said the magic word : imagination! I love all the avionics and details, I love to see any of those details, but it all comes down to imagination, immersion and dream. As you said it is a game, and as such, it is much better than the actual deadly and fearful battlefield... Thanks to ED the game is definitly the most beautiful jet sim ever, but it is a bit sterile and lifeless and mission planning is very much, as you said, finding a way around to make things happen correctly. Anyway, I love the sim and quite a few times, I do come back home (late at night) and find myself looking forward to taking off towards those distant mountains in search of the ennemy... but I always know ahead what will happen... JEFX [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] In DCS I fly jets with thousands of pounds of thrust... In real life I fly a humble Cessna Hawx XP II with 210 HP :D
Weta43 Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 Andrew - At least it got you to get that off your chest - & I completely agree with you - about the game - not about me being a git. Cheers.
