Dok Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 (edited) I was previously on 1.2.14 and have not played DCS in a bit over a month. It was all working when I last played. In the meantime I have upgraded from a NVidia Geforce 560Ti to ATI 7950. When I tried to start DCS today it said there was an update to 1.2.15 so I let it update. Now it crashes at start-up with the Windows message 'DCS has stopped working'. With foresight I wish I had tried without upgrading. Here is the final part of the logs from 'me.log': 00000.274 ERROR VFS: add_location {"My Missions", "C:\Users\Adam\Saved Games\DCS\Missions\"}: path already added as "My Missions" 00000.283 UNKNOWN main: GUI Error: [string ".\MissionEditor\MissionEditor.lua"]:251: renderer->initialize failed GUI debug.traceback: stack traceback: [C]: ? I have tried deleting the directory '..\Saved Games\DCS'. However, I still get the same crash. I have also tried doing a 'Repair DCS World' Any other ideas on what I could try. I would go back to an old version however my last DCS world is 'DCS_World_1.2.10.32275.524-354' with my older modules that version. This was the last time I did a full download. And my two newer module installers that I purchased are '1.2.14.35605.598-382'.me.zip Edited March 12, 2015 by Dok
Dok Posted March 12, 2015 Author Posted March 12, 2015 I have got DCS working again via doing a System Restore and restoring back to yesterday. I had given up on DCS for now and went to play a game that I had just been playing yesterday and it was no longer working. Which made me very suspicious. I remembered that Windows had done it updates when I went to turn it off. And that there had been 29 updates. Going to the Restore point created for the updates has fixed the issue for both the other game and DCS. I never would have thought of that otherwise, seeing I had not loaded DCS for over a month. I wonder which of the 29 updates is causing an issue. Only problem is Windows will want to update itself again when it shuts down. I guess first test is to see if it breaks DCS again.
Bewsher Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=114030 Use this to repair DCS World and then restore any mods if you have them.
Dok Posted March 14, 2015 Author Posted March 14, 2015 Thanks Bewsher for that information about how to roll back to previous versions. In my case after applying the Windows updates again DCS worked fine with 1.2.15. So it was not anything DCS related. The previous time the updates were being applied I had turned my computer off as a large storm was coming. And then stupid Windows decided that it wanted to install a lot of updates. So instead of a one minute shut down it took about 15 minutes. Meanwhile we were having brown outs while my computer said do not turn off. I thought it had manged to complete the updates but maybe one of the brown outs had taken it out and screwed something up. Microsoft need to add a I really need to shut down the computer now option...
AtaliaA1 Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 You can shut it down. It just will not apply the updates. Although it isn't stated the "Do not shut down" is a suggestion, they do need to make it clearer. This was a Boutique Builder iBuypower rig.
