Honest989 Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 Ok I was playing mission 10 out of flaming cliffs. I can't remember its name so we'll just call it mission ten. I had about 75% of the mission done when I got a small nick in the aircraft from some AAA burp. I didn't think it was a massive problem as either engine 2 was doing a couple of rpm's slower or I was getting a dodgy reading on the engine.. It was still working though. Russian betty pipes up and says i'm low on fuel.. mainly because I kept trying to do Iron hand's manouever everytime someone got radar lock on me so as opposed to heading right back, i blew up some targets of opportunity with the remaining missiles and then headed for the nearest friendly airbase.. All is well and I'm passing said airbase. It's at this point I notice that my engines say that they're not throttling back past about 6 (can't remember how many rpm 0's are needed..) fine.. I'll get on the glide path and then cut them on the final approach. It's at this point I'm lined up, ready to land and doing about 400kph. I've got flaps on full and I'm slowing down so I lower the landing gear... and then there's a big thump... my nose wheel is heading for the ground at an alarming speed (as in it actually just ripped off).. Is that even likely to happen?!? When the thing finally came to a stop after a belly landing it promptly blew up before i even ejected...

104th_Crow Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 Indeed it will happen, you can blow your gear very easily if you come down on them too hard. (it's modeled in the game) The SU-25's gear is suceptable to this so a gentle hand is needed both for landing and taxiing. As well if you lower your gear at too high an airspeed they will rip off. word of caution, You can raise your gear when you are sitting on the tarmac (only in the Su-25's) becareful not to do this (I did many times). interesting movement when you do it though, kind of like an old man settling into his favourite chair. :) Service Before Self Fedeltier (Fuselier Forever) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Honest989 Posted April 27, 2006 Author Posted April 27, 2006 nope, it wasn't that. the front wheel and the assembly for it just ripped away from the plane when i lowered the gear while i was descending, not on the tarmac. i wasn't over speed. I had the dual sensation of being all tingly that this was possible but i was also going to have the worst end to a mission. ever.
Brit_Radar_Dude Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 Pretty cool damage modelling if it can weaken undercarriage so a lower speed will rip it off in slipstream! Can't wait to get FC if it does funky stuff like that.... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Sorry Death, you lose! It was Professor Plum....
Roman G Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 my flaps once just flew away as i pulled them while flying at high speed. i watch my speed when pulling out flaps since then ...
Weta43 Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 It's an unpleasant surprise when you're pulling hard on the stick in a turn just above the ground & then one flap flies away (BRD - save your pocket money & buy the add on !) Cheers.
Crusty Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 Its possible that you damaged the gear on take off but didnt notice, untill you lowered it, this can happen...somehow I know:music_whistling: oo err...missus:animals_bunny: ** Anti-Pastie**
zaelu Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 When landing watch the descent rate, after main gear touchdown and didn't blew off because of too much vertical speed on final aprouch check the "speed" you put the nose down, if is too much the nose gear may colapse (as the main usualy does in this cases). When you are ready to let the front wheel settle DON'T use rudder, you will blow imidiately the wheel as the game aparently simulates losing the tire as the angle of hiting the ground is too high. Then after all 3 wheels are down, slowly apply rudder to corect trajectory if necesary and deploy drogue shute. Be gentle with the beast. If you hit the ground on landing with your belly (by gear colapse par example) your engines may catch fire.... if you are lucky, just before you eject you may meet God :) .
