Guest IguanaKing Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 I am also thinking of getting my avionics cert. Have any recommendations for schools? There are lots of possibilities for schools. I took the EET course at ITT Tech, that gave me the basics, the rest was OJT. Not sure about your area, but here in Denver, probably the best Avionics-focused school is Emily Griffith. You probably won't be able to get a certification at any school though. The FAA will give you the opportunity to apply for a Repairman's Certificate after a minimum of 18 months of experience in the field. Until that happens though, you'd still be OK to work on avionics under the repair station license that your employer holds. In order for your employer to recommend you for the certificate, they will have to promote you to a management position (this puts you high enough in the food chain to be an authorized signer on the repair station license ;) ). I hear you on the employment situation, that's why I chose to stay away from the airlines. We're a small company with 10 employees, but MAN we do some big stuff. Well...not THAT kind of big stuff...we almost never work on corporate jets, but that's changing soon since we are fully-RVSM equipped. We've got lots of work though, including avionics maintenance on the USAFA's entire fleet of aircraft, Peterson AFB Aero Club, and the US Army (C-26s). Its been steady, stable work...with an occasional low period every year, right after the winter holidays...I've been there for 13 years now.

504MrWolf Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 Boeing 747 www.VVS504.co.uk www.lockonskins.co.uk
britgliderpilot Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 IIRC, the 747 equates to the C25 - not certain what the C26 is, but Google should reveal it . . . . http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg
Guest IguanaKing Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 A C-26 is the military version of the Metro Liner. If you're asking about the aircraft in the original video Shaman, I think its a KC-135.
504MrWolf Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 Yeah KC135 or KC10 since they had a boomer onboard :) www.VVS504.co.uk www.lockonskins.co.uk
Kula66 Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 Yeah KC135 or KC10 since they had a boomer onboard :) Engine dials are in 4s ... so I'd guess 135
