Hi guys,

I am new here, but years ago I was happily flying in Falcon and LockOn.

Now I have returned but ran into a major problem: I cannot get the engines to start up.

I have tried to put my throttle to idle by madly pusshing the Num- button, but nothing happens.

I am using a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick and a regular keyboard.

Can anybody please help?

Echo, did you turn on electrical power first?...

That's RShift + L by default.

The best way is to go to the options menu and configure the controls. Make sure you have the Su-27 selected as the aircraft.

You can see what the default keybinds are there, and rebind them to the ones you customarily use if you wish.

I'll also note that in most missions where you have to do a cold start the throttles default to the minimum setting at the start of the mission.

Callsign "Auger". It could mean to predict the future or a tool for boring large holes.

I combine the two by predictably boring large holes in the ground with my plane.

Throttle to idle in FC modules is just all way back. Unless it's different with TM Warthog, but it does not concern you.

Anyway, it should start, does your HUD come to life after "RShift + L" ?

If not then you need to reset controls, which comes down to deleting:

Two quick questions:

  • Has it ever worked in FC3 for you? Or is this the first time you've tried cold starting in FC3?
  • What happens if you unplug your flightstick, start up the sim, then select a cold start mission and try to start your engines with the keyboard commands?

This is the first time I play FC3. Years ago however with LockOn it worked.

I unplugged the joystick, and now the engines started up!!!!

After I plugged it in again the start up was no longer possible.

Is there something I should do with the stick? It does not have the engine start buttons allocated and the throttle handle does not function.

Normally the default binding for the throttle goes to the throttle axis (z axis) in a stick or HOTAS.

Try going to the Options page in DCS World> controls> Su-27, and then under axis assign clear the one that assigns the throttle to your joystick's broken throttle. It may be easier to find if instead of going to axis assign you just scroll down to check all of the engine and throttle keybinds and make sure none of them are bound to broken controls on your stick.

In general it's a good idea to check all the keybinds before using a new module, or if funny things are happening after an update.

To avoid any misunderstanding, the joystick itself is OK. The throttle handle on the stick works according to its software. However it does not respond in the game or is not recognised

When you say it isn't recognized, do you mean your stick is not listed as a controller in the Options menu?

Have you tried an air start? Do you have any sort of throttle control in that situation as you move the throttle up and down?

EDIT: Sorry for all the Qs. Just trying to help narrow things down. This isn't an issue of DCS interpreting your throttle control as being reversed or something simple like that, is it? An air start or runway start will let you check that.

EDIT 2: In Options, Su-27 Controls, Axis, nothing else is mapped as an throttle axis, is it (such as rudder pedals)? I've had my rudder pedals, especially, default to some pretty weird things during installation.

The joystick is recognised/listed as a controller by the game, however moving the throtle does not result in more or less power, it does not work.

In the air the throttle button does not gibe any results either.

Only the Keyboard throttle keys work.

In Options only the keys are mapped nothing is entered for the stick where engine etc is mentioned.

I greatly apprecite the help.

I think you're looking in--just slightly--the wrong place. I'm at work and can't check the exact location and terms used. Make sure you have the Su-27 Simulation selected. Then click next to it where it says "All" (I believe that's the term used) and select "axis". You should see your joystick axes listed there. There are options for full throttle up and down and, if you had a split throttle, for the right and left throttles up and down. (I'm working from memory and it's been a long time since I've had to check those settings.)

Thanks,

I noticed that the joystick slider (which I normally use for throttle up and down) is on Axis Assign allocated to Thrust (SU27 Axis Commands).

In SU27-All, the various Throttle commands are only allocated to the keyboard keys. The same goes for the Engine commands.

That section is for setting buttons, etc on your stick as a substitute for keyboard commands. That's entirely different from the axis controls.

Does this mean that you're all set? Or does the issue persist? If the problem continues, can you post some screenshots of your settings? I wonder if we are talking past each other. That slider should only be assigned one function. If you see it assigned as an axis for thrust, it should not appear anywhere else for anything, not even "throttle up" or "throttle down", otherwise the two assignments will negate each other.

In the air the joystick slider works; the engine goes to afterburner and back when I use it.

I still have the problem that I cannot start up the engines with the keyboard keys on a cold start.

The slider appears for Thrust on the Axis alone.

It gives headaches....

I think I got it working now: i increased the deadzone of the joystick to 10perc and green lights and beautiful engine screams!

End wiggled the throttle slider up and down a couple of times.........

as in the trimmer does not work, or it is difficult to trim for level flight?

in the first case, disable force feedback in the game options. in the second case, yes, yes it is.
