GeorgeLKMT
Is the batch file 100% correct? Does it not open at all or can you at least see it on taskbar down there? ■ L-39C/ZA Czech cockpit mod ■ My DCS skins ■
Bearcat
Yes I see it in the task bar.. The batch file opens.. an icon appears in the task bar.. but it never opens up on the desktop. When I mouse over the icon I can see a thumbnail of the viewer.. but when I try to open/maximize it.. crashes. GeorgeLKMT
I had the same problem, but maximizing actually solved the it. Does it crash with some error or just closes when you hit maximize? Have you tried working with standalone version? By the way, are you just clicking on that thumbnail or right click - maximize? Only the latter works. Modelviewer is open, only somewhere out of your desktop where you can't see it. Bearcat
Hmmmm I got it to open.. but the active window where the model is was smal and to the left.. I then shut that down and opened the batch file in the DCS main folder again. It opened up full screen like I remember. It sees there are two paths to the viewer.. One is ..../Eagle Dynamics/DCS World/edModelviewer and the other is /Eagle Dynamics/DCS World/bin/Modelviewer I previously had the latest ModelViewer installed.. but I found a post that suggested that I use ver 94949 so I did that. I am thinking thsat the batch file thaty is in the DCS main folder named Viewer opens up the edModelViewer folder that is in the main folder.. Perhaps my problem was my newer version of the viewer.. Thanks for the assist George.. GeorgeLKMT
There's a modelviewer.exe included with DCS installation in \bin folder that has to be open with batch file. Standalone, the one that you download and install, should open on its own. ■ L-39C/ZA Czech cockpit mod ■ My DCS skins ■
Bearcat
Rgr that.. I prefer the standalone viewer.. One more question.. I forgot how to load a skin.. I don't see the option in the Menu anywhere.. am I missing something? GeorgeLKMT
I'm using the included one, but if I remember correctly, you have to put your textures in TempTextures folder in your edmodelviewer installation. ■ L-39C/ZA Czech cockpit mod ■ My DCS skins ■

GeorgeLKMT
This is actually in that thread I linked before: 7) Help! I get "Warning Missing Texture" in place of my texture!! A) Put your textures in \Bazar\TempTextures of your Modelviewer install. So I guess that's it. That's why I'm using the included one, because it's using standard liveries folder and I can switch in between skins if I need to. ■ L-39C/ZA Czech cockpit mod ■ My DCS skins ■

GeorgeLKMT
You should have batch file in the main folder with this parameter: bin\ModelViewer.exe ■ L-39C/ZA Czech cockpit mod ■ My DCS skins ■
Bearcat
Yeah... ok that is the one that crashes all the time.. and I still do not see where to bring up the textures that I put into the standalone.. GeorgeLKMT
No worries, I guess it's just got all mixed up for us. Standalone textures: 7) Help! I get "Warning Missing Texture" in place of my texture!! A) Put your textures in \Bazar\TempTextures of your Modelviewer install. I still find it weird that the standard modeviewer crashes for you though... it'll crash only when you run it directly but that's what the batch file is for. ■ L-39C/ZA Czech cockpit mod ■ My DCS skins ■
Bearcat
No the standalone does not crash anymore.. the one in the bin folder does.. I just can't get my skins to show up in the standalone.. I put it in :D:\Games\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\edModelViewer\Bazar\TempTextures and I still get the default skin when the viewer opens. Bearcat
I just also realized something else... the batch file in my main DCS folder points to ......../Eagle Dynamics/DCS World/bin/Modelviewer.exe .. which means that it is not pointing to the standalone viewer and that is probably why the temp textures do not sow up.. but that brings me back to my other question.. If this is pointing to the viewer in bin then why can I not find a poath to load a skin into the viewer.. Gadzooks man.. This is frustrating.. GeorgeLKMT
Basically: Standard viewer (in the Bin folder): - Will crash everytime you'll try to open it directly by clicking the exe - Need a batch file so it won't crash. -- If it's still crashing even when batch file, then unfortunately I don't know why - Displays all the textures from your normal liveries folder (\DCS World\Bazar\Liveries) and you can select the one you need with liveries dialog. - I don't think it can display textures from any other folder, so if you want to paint CoreMods aicraft (MiG-15, 21 etc..) which don't have textures there, you'll either have to make proper entry in \Bazar\Liveries folder with description.lua or use the standalone. Standalone (the one you download and install separately) - Shouldn't crash and therefore doesn't need a batch file at all, just click the exe - If it's crashing, try different version. - You need to put the textures manually into \edModelViewer\Bazar\TempTextures - If that still doesn't work, I don't know either... That's all I have up in my sleeves. Edited March 27, 2015 by GeorgeLKMT ■ L-39C/ZA Czech cockpit mod ■ My DCS skins ■
Bearcat
OK I managed to get both viewers to open. The standalone opens with the exe in the edModelViewer folder.. the in game one opens with the batch file. The stand alone viewer opens up and all the models are black as if in silhouette with no textures at all. The in game one that isd in the bin folder opens up with the stock default skins. In the case of the in game one in the bin folder ... You have the viewer open.. the model is up with the skin of the green Mustang with the DDay stripes.. What steps would you use to change that skin to a custom one that you made if that skin was in the usual folder for skins. I tried putting skins in the temp folder but they do not change from the default. I don't know maybe I am just dense.. I don't remember it being this complicated in the past.. in fact from my memory it was very intuitive.. GeorgeLKMT
View -> Dialogs -> Show liveries dialog. Small window pop up, on the left side you select the aircraft you're painting, on the right the livery you want.
