Today, Leap Motion and OSVR announced that the upcoming OSVR Hacker Dev Kit will feature an optional faceplate embedded with Leap Motion hardware. The addition of the OSVR faceplate with Leap Motion will make the HDK the first-to-market virtual reality headset with fully integrated motion control technology. This also marks the first in a future lineup of virtual reality headsets with embedded Leap Motion hardware and software.

We believe that the future of VR lies in people’s ability to reach into other worlds with their bare hands. This is a huge milestone – not just for Leap Motion, but for the VR industry overall – and we’re excited to continue driving that vision forward. With embedded solutions like this, Leap Motion is increasingly solidifying its place as a fundamental part of the VR experience.

The benefit to having motion control technology embedded in a VR headset is twofold: developers know what type of input they’re designing for, and consumers get a consistent experience every time.

The OSVR Hacker Dev Kit is designed for the OSVR platform, an open framework that brings input devices, games, and output devices together. The HDK will be available for pre-order through OSVR’s web store starting in May, with shipping in June. Learn more from the official announcement:

Tbh, Leap motion left a sour tast in a lot of gamers mouths with the first product, it didnt work very well at all, and had significant teething issues.

I'll stick with ORCV and a trackball.

I won't disagree, as I have a Leap in the closet somewhere. I was just passing on the info. :)
