Hello,

My doubt is about GPU upgrade to run DCS with a single monitor (yes, I don't have money to buy many screens).

I will change my LG 19" to a 24" or 27" screen soon.

Now I can run DCS ~17 to 26 FPS with this system below with all settings low.

I know that I need to change all the system (processor, RAM and motherboard) too, but I don't have money to do that in 2015, maybe in 2016-2017.

The exact question is: Is GTX 960 enough to my system? I wish to run DCS with minimum 50, maybe 60 FPS all the time.

Or, I need a GTX 970 to a single screen (and spend a lot of money)

Thanks

That's a difficult question. You will definately need a new card soon or you won't be able to update to DCSW 2.0. On the other hand, i can't say how e.g. a GTX960 will perform with your CPU under EDGE. For the short term, it might be more beneficial to get a cheaper card and invest in at least a CPU with higher single core performance.

Do you think you could get something like a i5-2500k and mobo used and have some money to spare for a better GPU?

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

+1

a used i5/i7 combo of the SandyBridge class will get you the most fps per dollar, no doubt.

I got an i7-2600k + Asus mobo + RAM for free, bought a Watercooler, overclocked it to 4.8 rock stable, added a 980gtx and bang, all i ever needed :)

Add a SSD and such when you can afford it.

The SandyBridge was the last with a highly dedicated expensive heat spreader built into the CPU by Intel. Any CPU thereafter has a lesser capable heat spreader, includinhg the X99 based 6 and 8 core models.

That is why Sandy Bridge still plays a role in gaming computers, as you can clock them to up and above 5GHz on selected Models, most clock to 4.6, some to 4.8 ( mine ) and some rare ( 2 out of 100 ) go 5GHz up to 5.2GHz on water and air cooling ( prefer water, less noise ).

If you use LN cooling, they clock to 5.6 GHz, but that is not suitable for every day gaming I think.

All in all, if you can get a hold of one, or more, check the Stepping, D2 is what you look for, high stepping value too, mine is Stepping 7,

The D2 Revision is the King of OC for Sandy Bridge, it needs less Voltage and was the final and best Revision they made with the CPUs with 5+ GHz.

Some are thrown away, yes, I got 2 of them for free, believe it or not.

Check your friends, relatives and local papers...

Yes, I agree with you all.

Ok, I will think this way: I will upgrade my system in steps:

1st Change GPU (this is my worst component currently)

2st Change motherboard and CPU, considering your adviser (next year)

3st As BitMaster said, get a SSD

So, What kind of GPU do you saw running DCS (with a modern mobo and processor) with 60 FPS and with all video options Full and a with single screen?

This question will guide my GPU selection to the 1st step.
