NightMan Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Gentlemen, To those of us who don’t have a TrackIR, the absence in DCS of specific keyboard commands which allow for a quick scan of the sky puts us in great disadvantage. Without such keys we struggle to maintain situation awareness and it’s almost impossible to spot heat seekers heading our way. I use flight simulators and combat flight simulators since 1989, and I remember well titles like The Red Baron and the Aces series, where there were no missiles involved but even without TrackIR we always had full situation awareness, tanks to specific keyboard commands. In DCS we have 8 (eight) glance functions, but these are almost useless. Without prejudice to the existing functions, a few more should be added: Glance up – allowing the pilot to truly look up vertically, at an angle of 90º, maybe even with some degree of zooming; Glance forward – this one would be equivalent on zooming in on the HUD; Glance left – this one would allow the pilot to look left, at an angle of 270º horizontally, maybe even with some degree of zooming; Glance right – this one would allow the pilot to look right, at an angle of 90º horizontally, maybe even with some degree of zooming; Glance back-left – allowing the pilot to look behind the plane to the left, maybe even with some degree of zooming; this would be equivalent to pressing the hat switch on the joystick left all the way until the panning stops; this would mean a rotation of around 170º left, to an angle of 190º horizontally; Glance back-right – allowing the pilot to look behind the plane to the right, maybe even with some degree of zooming; this would be equivalent to pressing the hat switch on the joystick right all the way until the panning stops; this would mean a rotation of around 170º right, to an angle of 170º horizontally. From all these, the two last ones are the most important. In fact, their importance is critical. Therefore, I would like to humbly request that ED implements what I have suggested or similar. DCS cameras, views and video recording F-5E simpit cockpit dimensions and flight controls Kill the Bloom - shader glow mod Poor audio Doppler effect in DCS [bug] Trees - huge performance hit especially up close

But also you might be interested in creating your own headtracker, which is quite easy and very heap to do. ~$15USD http://hobbycomponents.com/electronics/440-diy-head-tracker-bundle https://edtracker.org.uk/index.php/building/hardware It will give you 2 DoF meaning that you will be able to look side to side and up and down (but not lean or rotate which aren't used much anyway)

Yes it can - in my experience the snap view overrides the head tracking. I used to use a custom snap view for aiming the GAU-8 gun piper so that my head movement wouldn't interrupt when zoomed in maximum and I could look down the HUD to see those tiny little tanks so far way :D. 1 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cockpit Spectator Mode

NightMan Posted June 3, 2015 Author Posted June 3, 2015 Hello again! Thanks for the suggestion. Indeed the Custom Snap Views worked, but it was a pain in the you know what to set them up. At first I ended up several times redefining the Default View and having to restore de default settings. Then I realized I had already (some time ago) redefined the original commands. So, if that happens to you don’t use LWin+NumX. Instead use the sequence you have replaced the original for. However, using the Custom Snap Views prevents us from using them for something else, like looking at some system. I will use them until the request for implementation is satisfied.
