Hueyman Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Hi, I have no real interest in ground units, but , I can understand some may have. But I was wondering why couldn't we merge both online, with the ability to sling several ground and light armored units with the Huey and Mi-8 ? This could make the outcome of an online battle much more dynamic, combining heli pilots skills and gunners/ tank commander abilities, That would be Just awesome ! The Huey's can't carry any armoured vehicle in game (max sling load 4000lbs) but there are maps where you can carry a load to a drop zone and trigger spawn points. It would take a chinook to transport MBTs.

Hueyman Posted June 3, 2015 Author Posted June 3, 2015 Yeah but even ammo boxes or light vehicles ( Jeeps etc ) would be nice ! Wow Ciribob, that definitely worths a try, thanks ! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] CPL(A)IR ME/SEP/MEP/SET - CPL(H)

Fri13 Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 The Huey's can't carry any armoured vehicle in game (max sling load 4000lbs) but there are maps where you can carry a load to a drop zone and trigger spawn points. It would take a chinook to transport MBTs. Not even Chinook can transfer a MBT, some tanks like M113, Nasu, Bandvagn 206 etc or and trucks like HMMWV sure but not MBT. UH-60 and SH-60 max slingload is 9000lb, a S-64E/F has 20 000lb and CH-47 Chinook has 28 000lb (12700kg) or CH-53 Sea Stallion 13,000 pounds (5,900 kg) and compare those to example Mi-10 that lifts 36 600lb (16 600kg) but that is flying crane ;-) Think about weights, like M2 Bradley weights 60 900lb (27 600kg) and BMP-2 weights 31 500lb (14 300kg) or the air dropped variant BMD-2 that is 25 300lb (11 500kg). So the helicopter capability to lift isn't anything like people often believes, instead it is very limited, while still being impressive. To transport MBT, you need large cargo airplanes or more likely a ships if wanted to get stuff quickly at once. As MBT like M1A1 weights just nice 63 000kg and T-90 weights 47 500kg and Leopard 2A6 is 63 000kg. What we as well really miss in CA are trains and trucks. We should have those to transport tanks around the maps for FOB etc. C-130 Hercules has payload for around 25-29 000kg, so it can't even lift one MBT, but it can take one M2 Bradley if upgraded model. C-17 has payload of 170 900lb (77 500kg) and that can take a single MBT or two M2 Bradleys. Russia has own cargo planes. An-124 can carry 150 000kg (55 planes built) An-225 can carry 250 000kg (2 planes built) So when you start lifting heavy cargo, heavier than APC (common weight around 10 000-15 000kg), you are basically doing it on the ground. APC can be easily driven or transported in aircrafts but MBT are trouble ones. Helicopters transporting ground troops, maybe light artillery pieces, heavy mortars and light trucks. But that's it basically. If one day we get those trains working, we could truly have a great logistic system where commanders need to load trains and trucks, organize the cover and then transport units. And again aircrafts would have one reason more to carry bombs to destroy bridges, tracks etc. i7-8700k, 32GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 2x 2080S SLI 8GB, Oculus Rift S. i7-8700k, 16GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 1080Ti 11GB, 27" 4K, 65" HDR 4K.
Avimimus Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Very good post Fri13... of course there is an exception: The Mil Mi-26 can lift most Russian IFVs, APCs (not just the BMD series). Furthermore it can lift the PT-76 amphibious tank, the newer 2S25 Sprut-SD light tank, and the 2S9 Nona turreted self-propelled gun system. So, escorting an Mi-26 while it drops off a tank is a definite plausibility!
Hueyman Posted June 5, 2015 Author Posted June 5, 2015 Yeah I second that, very good and informative post Fri13 ! Thanks for searching the values ! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] CPL(A)IR ME/SEP/MEP/SET - CPL(H)
Fri13 Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Well, we could of course allow to do this... Transport those around :-P But with Mi-26 the record is 56 768.8 kg lifted to 2000m altitude. No idea is that the total mass (aircraft + cargo) as it sounds impossible it would have lifted such cargo when it was designed to lift 13 000kg cargo and can do 20 000kg cargoes. http://www.fai.org/fai-record-file/?recordId=9936 But Mi-26 now is huge and could do those APC and such easily. And for that I do agree that it would be very nice to see a way to order AI to drop some heavier cargo to specific place, while human pilots fly Mi-8MTv2 and in the future Mi-24P to transport troops and protect the transportation. i7-8700k, 32GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 2x 2080S SLI 8GB, Oculus Rift S. i7-8700k, 16GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 1080Ti 11GB, 27" 4K, 65" HDR 4K.
Svend_Dellepude Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 I think it would be faster to just let the F-15 fly itself around! :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Win10 64, Asus Maximus VIII Formula, i5 6600K, Geforce 980 GTX Ti, 32 GB Ram, Samsung EVO SSD.
