DCS Weather - Real time weather in your DCS World

It's already ok for nevada in current testing version, but i'm going to release only for openbeta of dcs 2.0.0.

The thing is, helicopters are different from planes. An airplane by it's nature wants to fly, and if not interfered with too strongly by unusual events or by a deliberately incompetent pilot, it will fly. A helicopter does not want to fly. It is maintained in the air by a variety of forces in opposition to each other, and if there is any disturbance in this delicate balance the helicopter stops flying; immediately and disastrously.

Hi everyone, a new version of DAWS Weather has been released at the link in the first page. Updated manual is also included.

Main changes are:

1- now you can insert any ICAO you want to download real time weather in the mission editor

2- a full brand new multiplayer features: now you can insert a "tag" into the briefing box of a mission to command a real time download of the weather from a particoular airport (ICAO code defined) each time you start the server whitout having to re-download the weather in the mission editor or you can also use a specific metar string to be applied.

Hope you like it ;)

NB: this will work for sure for DCS 1.5.3 current version. I did not tested it for Nevada. Next update will be for DCS 2.5.

Hey chromium,

Thank you for your work on this awesome mod. I got excited about the new server feature, but when I try to start a server on one of my missions pressing the start button does nothing and throws this error in the log...

Seems it don't find a briefing text dict. I will check asap.

Can you please send me you mission?

Did you add the tag in the briefing? (if not, there is a bug anyway but I already understand where to look for).

Can you please try to run the mod using a civil airport ICAO code?

Openbeta, if it's the same built as stable, should work.

I will PM you a link to the mission.

Yes, I added the tag to the situation briefing, but I also tried to run the mission before this implementation which gave me the same result.

Removing DAWS Weather fixes this and server starts again.

Tried with a new mission to see if the mod works and it does.

I only tested with the ICAO code of Nalchik (URMN) which is a civil airport.

Issue found, it's rather confusing cause all my test mission didn't show that particoular behaviour in the dictionary file. I will fix asap, stay in touch.

Update: issue seems solved, but I have a small side-bug.. the metar text isn't added in the mission briefing once the weather is inserted into the mission. I will update current version as soon as it's fixed.

Download link has been updated. Built 2109, changelog:

- Multiplayer weather bug with particoular missions has been fixed;

Know bug-free issues:

- Multiplayer server feature: in some mission seems impossible to insert the metar code in the briefing (sadly your is one of those, Marioshata);

- Multiplayer server feature (auto-download): if no metar can be retrieved from the given ICAO code, no message can be provided in a useful matter... it simply retain the previous weather setting.

Chromium, the link download leads to your site and the link on the site still downloads build 2086 dated 25 April.

Looking forward to implementing build 2109 on the Georgian Spring server.

Cheers

The link is correct: for convenience I simpy upload the file in the FTP leaving the dl link the same. Believe me, I triple check the download file before writing that here :P

The built is correct also but it refers to the _mul file: the built of the mission editor mod file it's still the same as before.

Chromium thank you for the update but that is not working for me:(

I can not select any airport from the mission editor because there is no airport option setting.

I turned back the 1.5 version which is working well.

Recheck Manual, you shouln't select an airport, you should insert the ICAO code of the airport you want in the textbox with the "ICAO" text written inside ;). For example you should insert "UGKO" for Kutaisi.

That is a feature that remove the limits of using only the map airport. You can insert any airport ICAO you prefer, even the one near your home for example. That is a feature that was there before the airport list, but many user asked me to be able to use an icao code instead of a list of airport.. so I did.

As always, military airport code won't work but it's not a mod issue.. is that many of them won't made public the metar string (i.e. Vaziani)

no longer works with 1.5.4 beta, it causes Dcs to crash when you enter ME.

Understood. I'll try to fix asap.

It could be possible. It would be an interesting feature for the multiplayer version, but that would mean the it became night if you fly nighttime. For the manual METAR addition, it would be easier to read the metar and change the hour in the ME (you already are in the ME).

Please try to explain me what kind of behaviour you are looking for?

Yes, for the multiplayer version. This way the server will always have realistic weather and time of day for the METAR used. Some people don't like flying at night so if it could be implemented as a feature for the user to enable or disable in the DAWS_Weather.lua would be awesome.

I could be a timeshift option to add "n" hours to the METAR time each time, so who want could make day mission at real world night time and viceversa

I cant load any weather data :cry:

This should work correctly in 1.5.3, before 1.5.4 no issue reported. Instead, 1.5.4 openbeta isn't supported for the moment. Please check that:

1- version is correct;

2- Mod is properly installed;

3- you are trying ICAO code of civil airports, like Kutaisi (UGKO). Military ones aren't available;
