Are there some other photos you have seen that make you think it's a write off? The photos in the article only show engine fire and lots of smoke

Yeah, at the end of one of the videos, (sadly update now by the BBC and no longer show) you could see that the inboard leading edge is badly damaged as is the fuselage. I think certainly the fuselage wold require a large section replaced on the left side. Don't know what the structural integrity would be like after that. That said engineers do amazing things.

Last picture, you can enlarge it by clicking on it.

You can see the fuselage is holed quite significantly for at least two rows. Looks pretty Ronnied to me.

Nah, it'll buff out. Bit of T-Cut on it and some elbow grease :music_whistling:

And lo, Reverend Vegas did say "Take forth unto the infidel the mighty GAU 8 and expend its holy 30MM so that freedom will be brung upon them who knoweth not the joys of BBBBBBBRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRTTTTTTTTTT"

Wow that really is toasted.

Doesn't even bear thinking about what could have happened if the problem started as he rotated. Fortunately full stop on the runway and close proximity of fire services prevented a disaster.

I thought the fire bottles on the engine could extinguish an engine fire even on the ground?

That does not look like an engine fire.

You could see in one of the pictures on the BBC article that flames are coming from under the cowling of the port engine.

Depends on whether BA wants a hull write off against their name.

QANTAS repaired a B747 at great expense after an overrun in order to keep a clean slate. (no injuries) IIRC it was sold off soon after.

BA don't seem to be having much luck with 777's and engines.
