Callsign.Vega Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 I know Track IR 5 is pretty fast and responsive with it's 120 Hz processing. But I am not a huge fan of having to wear something on my head. No headphones or caps. Are there any other options for Track IR to work? What about face recognition? I have a PS3 camera, but last time I tested it with TrackNoIR you always needed a bright face and there was a bit of lag. Any progress been made on the face recognition front with cameras or software? GPU: RTX 4090 - 3,000 MHz core / 12,000 MHz VRAM. Dagger71 Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 ATM there is nothing on the market that beats TrackIR 5. It is a game changing piece of hardware that will without a doubt change your mind, the first time you use it. Nothing beats its precision, resolution and frame rate, not to mention native support to pretty much every important simulator on the market today.
BlackSharkAce Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 I just got one of these and the technology allows for a way higher sampling frequency than the 120Hz of the trackir. They require a headset and are only 3DOF though, but work like a charm for me =) https://edtracker.org.uk/ Oh and they're way cheaper than the trackir ;)

What would be the least "intrusive" way to track your head with TrackIR 5? A sun visor with the track clip? Are active IR led trackers mandatory for a better experience? Not too keen on that and only 3DOF. GPU: RTX 4090 - 3,000 MHz core / 12,000 MHz VRAM. BlackSharkAce Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Hmm, a box of electronics to wear. Not too keen on that and only 3DOF. Well yeah it's electronics, not sure what else you'd expect. Some videos of the results: Personally I don't really need the additional 3 DOFs, and with a couple tweaks you can emulate them to some extent. For having owned a trackir 5 before I can objectively call the EDtracker a smoother and snapier experience.

I'm just saying something that required nothing on the head like FaceTracknoIR would be superior to something that requires to be worn on the head given everything else equal. Of course I don't think FaceTracknoIR will be as responsive as TrackIR 5 or ED though. GPU: RTX 4090 - 3,000 MHz core / 12,000 MHz VRAM. Corbett1403 Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Things may change when VR comes out next year this is the future especially for console gaming eventually and PC gaming.
vicx Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 The Lighthouse tracking technology that will be "debuted" with the Vive will a superior solution in every metric compared to tracking solutions that are presently on the market. Lighthouse latency will be the lowest. Lighthouse accuracy and precision will be higher. Even if you aren't interested in VR you should be excited by some of the tracking technology that needed to be engineered to make VR work. In 2016 you very likely to find Lighthouse technology incorporated into tracking solutions that aren't for VR. Just to remind you what is state of the art. Lighthouse uses lasers and laser detectors and an IMU. TrackIR5 uses a webcam, some common CV techniques and a few LEDs stuck to a hat or a dongle. If Naturalpoint are smart they will already be in discussions with Valve to license Lighthouse for a Naturalpoint TrackLaser product.
