Hi, sorry another wishy-washy report from me :(

CPU % load on Multiplayer server (not client, but pure server) has shot through the roof relative to 1.2 to the point where my server cannot handle over 100 units now.

So to put more flavour on this, i did some testing and came up with these observations.

1. It doesn't matter if the units are static fortifications, more of them makes more load.

2. In all tests, units were not moving.

3. 175 units was 60% CPU (ignore the number, its a low clockspeed, watch for the relative numbers)

4. 70 units was 40% CPU

5. 30 units was 10% CPU

In a seperate test I put 2 F18's moving vs 3 SAM SA-3's. The result was 1% CPU until the SAM fired then a spike held at 40% until the F18 was hit and destroyed, then returned to 1% again. This repeated for the second F18 when he got shot down, whilst tracking and and evading the CPU holds a 40% load just on 4-5 objects whilst they are in combat, but returns to almost nothing when the engagement finishes.

In multiplayer testing with clients there's a similar behaviour, outside of combat the load isn't too bad, but start shooting and we get CPU spike accompanied by warping.

I did another test where i run the SAME mission from 1.2 that has about 8 aircraft and 20 moving ground units and 80 static ones. The CPU remains 60-70% but crashes after some time on 1.5 whereas 1.2 its around 20% and stays up for days.

I have got some experience in multi server administration, I've run a server for the last year with SLMOD and some complex scripting, graphics disabled and literally found the performance workable for at least 12 clients.

My concluding observation is that 1.5 server performs much worse in several areas, noticeably CPU load which has a contributing factor to warping and crashing. There is also a Memory leak that several have reported of around 200MB per hour idle and a lot more under load.

I have the same problem Pikey and have done a good testing and documenting job I will file for ED tonight. The menu system alone uses 53% of the CPU capacity and with a simple mission my test server is at 93.75% CPU for DCS alone and the rest to the OS services of course. I will just get a couple more screen-shots and I will forward the documentation to ED's.
