I am having an issue with this mission. I have several saved versions of the missions. Every once in awhile one will get corrupted and the voice overs will disappear.

V7 was the last stable version I was able to save. After that, V8, V9 and V10 all have issues.

The mission loads just fine in single player and multiplayer, but when i go to click on a flight to spawn into the aircraft, DCS crashes me to Windows desktop.

I know it's not my installation of DCS because some squadron mates have loaded the missions onto their computers and the same thing happens. V7 loads fine, but I can't make any additions or changes without the file becoming unusable.

Can someone please look at the attached mission files and tell me what you think the problem is?

Thanks!

I have had this happen numerous times and have yet to figure out why. One method I have been testing that seems to work is after editing a mission and saving it, before trying to run it in either SP or MP mode, close DCS World completely and return to desktop. Then restart DCS World and run the mission. I will have to test this method more thoroughly to be sure if it is a solution but I would be interested to know if this method works for others that may be having the same issue. It seems that there is something about the save function that is not behaving normally.

Update:

I just loaded your V7 miz in the 1.5 ME and tested the sound files in the trigger menu and there was no sound. However when I opened the miz file and extracted the sound files they played just fine in Audacity. Weird!

Thanks Blooze.

Although your solution sounds like a pain in the a $$, it would be worth it to prevent my mission files going crazy.

I'll give it a shot tomorrow and let you know if it works.

Looked at V10 of your mission, the crash to desktop is caused by a missing "Mission Details Picture" (found the error logged in the DCS.log and also seen it when I ran the mission, the mission detail window comes up with a big fat missing textures picture).

I had some funky things happening with included sound files and briefing pictures being truncated from missions in early beta versions, most issues seemed to have been fixed with hotfix 3. There maybe a few gremlins still floating around, caused under certain circumstances.

Solution was to just delete corrupt picture from the "Briefing Windows Panels" and reload your "Diamond Dogs.jpg" from the V7 mission.

Ran the mission and jumped into all available aircraft without crash to desktop, Voices seem to work fine, intro and Il76 stuff in SP and MP.

Played sounds from with in ME and they all played fine.

Can't explain issue as to why the corruption is happening, but just know were to look now most of the time. DCS.log is your friend, check it out, will give clues to issues such as CTD.

Whilst testing when I have issues:

  • Clear the Temp cache in location = c:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Temp\DCS.openbeta\
  • Check DCS.log in location = c:\Users\YourUserName\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Logs\

Hope this has been of some help, ammended mission is attached.

Regards, Ian.

Outstanding Maddog,

I'm not really sure why the image would have been removed between the versions...I know I didn't remove it!

Thanks for the advice and the mission fix. This was my first mission so I had no clue about the logs. I'm just muscling my way through it.

Great community in this game!

I was having similar problems with the sound files during certain versions after a save. I'd look in the trigger menu and try to play the file and nothing would play even though it was pointed to the correct directory on my pc. Do you think it has anything to do with ogg vs wav files or where they are saved on my pc?

I had another episode of this today and can't figure out what caused it. I don't think it's an issue with ogg or wav formats but because it is such an erratic problem it will be difficult if not impossible to pin it down to a single cause. I am going to wait until the next patch and see what happens before I pull all my hair out.

I am with blooze on this one, I thought that originally it my be a an ogg or wav thing, but on testing couldn't prove anything either way.

I had been testing mission conversion from 1.216 to OB 1.5 and since the hotfix 3 most issues seem to be resolved.

My issues with missing sound files / sound files not playing, was caused by some wierd thing in the script init boxes within the Mission Editor, there was no file or code in each box, but the code box was highlighted with a big grey box.

This caused the OB Mission editor to generate a general lua error on saving of the mission and subsequently to drop a random amount of sound files from the mission file - (this was checked with a zip file viewer to see the differences in the original mission file and the new OB 1.5 version).

Suspect it is mainly missions that have either a mist.lua or other xxxx.lua scripts in the init section or through out the mission triggers.

I have been editing some missions after conversion to OB 1.5 format and testing and haven't found any corruption issues as you guys have been having, ie with multiply edits and resaving of a mission for example.
