diveplane Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 wow lockon still runs like a pig , with my x1800xt 512mb video card... turned water to maximum setting ,then went in game , was a slide show .... .....oh well, guess we need 12 cpus and 9 video cards to run this on full... https://www.youtube.com/user/diveplane11 DCS Audio Modding.

It just water does it. It's everywhere under the dry land...
SuperKungFu Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 yea this was mentioned before, water is all under the land, makes it easier to model the rivers and such. But doesn't this hog up the cpu? Some people said its not being render since its not seen but i think it is being rendered. Any thoughts? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
britgliderpilot Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 Official answer - it's less CPU-intensive to model the water this way, than break it up into smaller portions. I'm mildly surprised that maximum water would have that effect even on an X1800XT - what CPU are you running again? edit - whoops, in the sig. D 820 is a dual-core Intel P4 - OK. Given that Lomac, being a single-threaded application, does not run on both of your dual cores simultaneously, you're running Lomac on a single-core P4 2.8. Which isn't fast enough ;) edit twice - for a bit of a discussion of coding for multiple threads/processors, go here: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/38610606/m/6401024654/r/3751015654#3751015654 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg

diveplane Posted June 25, 2006 Author Posted June 25, 2006 system is fine on med settings...,though on testing things i have found that flares close up on launching is terrible still..... and again avoid high water settings.... maximum shadows are very good .....no problems there.... distance settings and views on med .......ok ..................... heat blur ...ok advanced haze .........ok all good over all its a big improvement over a x700pro card ..... ...... https://www.youtube.com/user/diveplane11 DCS Audio Modding.
Guest Cali Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 I run everyhing on high except water (high, not ARE YOU NUTS) visual range and no mirrors. With these settings I get 25-35 FPS in cockpit and my computer set-up is in my sig.
diveplane Posted June 25, 2006 Author Posted June 25, 2006 nuts what you mean? https://www.youtube.com/user/diveplane11 DCS Audio Modding.
Guest Cali Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 nuts what you mean? LOL the water Low Medium High ARE YOU NUTS :shocking: <----very high
diveplane Posted June 25, 2006 Author Posted June 25, 2006 during testing with water on very high in the su25t with the tv daylight pod on and mirrors set to med i got approx 10 to 15 pfs peaking at around 18 =incockpit external on ground was hovering at around 10 fps to 13 once in the air it went up to around 14ish fps aprox so the water is a massive cpu gpu hog ,and so are the flares when you fire them in muliple launches..... .................rest of the settings are fine....fairly smooth also tested the cannon firing at ground with my x700pro there was a little lag, with the x1800xt no problems with cannon impacts ........... these are just my findings on my machine , also aa was set x2 mipmap setting in card was set to maximum performace speed.... ........... only setting i had high in lockons grahics was textures .. color was set to 16bit screen res 1024x786 safe to say my system handles lockon no problem at med....settings... https://www.youtube.com/user/diveplane11 DCS Audio Modding.
Guest Cali Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 diveplane your FPS should be higher then that, cause on my system I get better FPS then you do. Your system is better then mine except your processor. Yours is a 2.8 and mine is a 3.2, maybe just maybe that extra 400mhz is the key. Or maybe you should have went with a AMD, I have no idea:dunno:.
diveplane Posted June 25, 2006 Author Posted June 25, 2006 i was running a 3.2 intel before i got the 2.8 pentium d , ...reason i got this chip because new games will be utillizing duel cores very shortly =new flightsimulator x .....and many other new titles due out hey just reporting the facts.... lockon runs like a dog.....on high settings https://www.youtube.com/user/diveplane11 DCS Audio Modding.
Kula66 Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 What do you define as 'Runs like a dog"? Its all about expectations! I play on a 2.26Ghz single core laptop and the performance is ok ... mostly 20-25FPS and almost everying is on high! Apart from water - which I don't like on high - the sea never looks like that! And mirrors on low ...
VMFA117_Poko Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 I run everyhing on high except water (high, not ARE YOU NUTS) visual range and no mirrors. With these settings I get 25-35 FPS in cockpit and my computer set-up is in my sig. Exactly same settings! In highest I can only make movies...

Sleek Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 yea something's not right?..i run everything on high,(mirrors off) except water (med) and get good fps..more than playable Be Good..Be Strong..:drink: ;)
T-Bone Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 I have a AMD 3000+ and I still get 20-40 fps. Upgrading *in anticipation* may have backfired on you slightly - on any single-threaded game you've suffered a significant (but predictable) loss in performance. If you had taken the A64 route, for example, you could have a 3700+ now and a 4400+ dual core when games were released that used the technology. Rather better than a 2.8 Have a look at this benchmark, purely for an example: ph34r teh Athlon 64!!! ;) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg
T-Bone Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 Where can I get an Nvidia 7800 GS for cheap? How much of an improvement over the Radeon 9800 Pro 128 is it?
