huppel Posted November 15, 2015 Posted November 15, 2015 Hi, I'm learning the Ka-50 and have a hard time understanding the init point button on the PVI-800. I searched the forum but still do not completly understand it's use. I see that I can select it next (together, both lights are on) to a waypoint or target point and there can be only one init point. I cannot update it with the position of the Shkval but I figured out I can set it to the position of an existing waypoint or target point in edit mode. Can somebody perhaps explain what it is meant for and how it should be used? Regards, Huppel

The PVI has an inertial navigation unit that needs to be initialized on each startup. Most INU's figure out their present position based on earth's rotation. but you can speed it up by giving it the current geo position. I bet this button allows you to enter your current gps position - so that the INU process can be sped up. It's one of those good to know kinda things - but not needed for most missions.
dburne Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 I am still learning as well, but I think he may be referring to " Initial Point". Do a search in the BS2 Manual for Initial Point, and it will return a few results. Would seem to be the point one can assign as the initial starting point for the engagement, and there can only be one IP. Can also assign to individual wingmen in the Data Link. Sounds like it is normally set in the Mission Editor for the individual mission, but also maybe can be set in the PVI-800. huppel Posted November 16, 2015 Author Posted November 16, 2015 Sorry, I indeed refered to the initial point button on the PVI-800. I read the desciptions in the manual. Indeed there can only be one, you should be able to set it in the mission editor and I found out it can be changed from the PVI-800 itself. It indeed must have something to do with the initial point for an attack but what I don't understand is what purpose it has when turned it on. You can turn it on together with a waypoint or target point, but when should I turn this on and what will happen? Best, Huppel
