Okay... so- was running on minimums before to run the server without 3D rendering on. Now I need a DX11 compatible graphics card. The 680 I was going to sell is now relegated to that duty.

Port 10308 (I think it is) is forwarded in TCP and UDP... try to start that server and I get a black screen. Try to connect to the server via IP and I get a black screen while connected to my own stand alone server within my own home network.

I can't even imagine how many people have tried this game out and thrown their hands up, kicking at the sand. I ran a server for years so I know I'll get through it... but this BS is just ridiculous.

And yeah- I'm dealing with the 1.5 beta. (Good point 8 ball)

I've tried searching, and I've tried a bunch of nonsense. Started with not running a DX11 graphics card that worked fine before with the renderer turned off... Now apparently that's important so you can run a black screen as you run a dedicated server on your own computer with the renderer turned off.

I've come back hoping that things were better... that the things that were driving me bananas in mission making and the absolute waste of time of flying for sometimes hours just to see a bunch of vehicles humping each other and driving off bridges was going to get fixed... and apparently those were. Meanwhile I now need an actual graphics card to show a black screen and a dipsie doodle magic wand with a bunch of additional "mods" to get a server to run.

This is ****ing annoying- but am I the only one who feels this way? Is it something I'm doing wrong?

Don't even get me started about the mission editor... put an aircraft in the wrong order... fill in the details before you place it- oh no! Now the radio frequency is wrong. Gee- that takes me back.

Oh- put a jtac down... no further tasking yet you haven't hit anything yet.

Fack.

All the guys building mods are caught having to start from scratch with every iteration of beta / public... guys who spend hundreds of hours on each mission they create need to go back and figure out what went wrong...

I don't know if I'm just shell shocked from the struggle a year ago or if I came back with expectations that are too high. But everything I'm seeing so far is nothing but a reminder to me of what was difficult before.

I'm willing to work through it... I can do some of my own work- but like most of you I only have so much time and throwing it out the window so that a game / sim can just circle around all the nonsense that makes it suck is extremely disheartening after this long. I walked away for over a year to catch my breath and let them catch up and what did they fix that makes the game more playable in the multiplayer environment?

Is this STILL just some single player paradise?

Sorry... /rant.

ENO, getting black screens was something that was reported when 1.5 was initially released.

The reason was because people were running the multiplayer shortcut of DCS World Open Beta, because ED now moved to a single executable, you should use only the non multiplayer shortcut.

On DCS ISRAEL we are running GTX550Ti, you should be able to run it with no problems with 680.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input guys...

The problem started when I entered the port forwarded UDP / TCP settings on the router... prior to that the multiplayer screen would load with the aircraft positions.

Immediately after I changed the settings I could go in, configure the server and launch it but it would go to black screen and not do anything thereafter. The really weird part was connecting via IP and the same thing happening to the client session.

Thanks Xcom... not sure how our hours are going to line up-

I'm in the middle of the DCS 2 upgrade at 26kb/s so not sure I'll tackle this today. The whole process is exhausting as you can imagine.

I remember this happening when 1.5 first came out but I don't remember what I did to solve the problem. However, 2 things come to mind....if you create a mission in the 1.5 ME after saving it close DCS World completely and re-open it before you try to run a mission. There seems to be a glitch in the save function in 1.5. Attached is an autoexec file that takes the place of the internet speed options we use to have. This should optimize the upload and download speeds for the server. Place the file in the saved games/DCS OpenBeta/config folder. Hope that helps. If you are trying to run older missions be advised that slmod is not compatible with 1.5 and mist needs to be updated to the latest version.

Eh Blooze- thanks for the input. Just so you know I made the most basic mission ever in 1.5x beta... a couple aircraft and some targets- literally just for testing.

Very strange behavior... going to take a stab at the alpha but I have a funny feeling it's going to be... uh... no less frustrating based on the concept of what an alpha is.

Is your server private?

If so, try setting it to "public server" but with a password. Without it my server won't launch either.

That's how I have it set up.

You know- it's got me thinking it's something really stupid... I do recall back in the day that a restart inexplicably helped on some occasions- especially when installing new drivers etc. That may very well be it.

I'll check it out-

Hey bud!

WC

Eh Crew... Okay... this time I mean it. I'm going to try to get this thing back off the ground. I went for my first flight the other day... felt good. A bit on the rough side but things were coming back.

I'll definitely be picking your brain in short order! Building some templates for the NTTR to make building some missions a bit easier.

Looking forward to getting the gang back together!

A hard lesson learned today. Click HERE

Ugh... Blooze- man, I feel for you. I didn't have that happen but I've had to start a few things off from scratch because of other troubling glitches. The days of setting up elaborate paths for ground vehicles just to watch them humping up and down the road and getting lost in the wreckage of one vehicle... oh the humanity!

After the same thing happened today by simply changing the time of day I learned that all that was needed was to delete the entry in the action column for play sound to all and re-enter it. There is something about making changes that can disable the action entry for sound files but I don't have a clue what it is. This started with 1.5 and continues with 2.0.

Well, you know me -- I stick with the releases, especially with the run up to the recent Mudspike.com Fly In. But I am glad to see DCS offering the Betas and Alphas for testing. I'm out of town for the w/e, maybe when I get back I'll go get the v2.

The new versions do look nice in the screenies!

Visit the Hollo Pointe DCS World server -- an open server with a variety of COOP & H2H missions including Combined Arms. All released missions are available for free download, modification and public hosting, from my Wrecking Crew Projects site.

Yes I do remember that frustrating quality about you! :)

I have been up north since the day after I was having trouble so I haven't had a lot of opportunity to set anything up... Did recently solve a teamviewer problem I was having so that was a relief- I can then edit directly through the server and not have to worry about having 50 gigs of DCS on my laptop.

I've got Einstein on steam- he told me about the mudspike fly-in but I couldn't put my gear back together again in time... Hoping to get some more stick time in this weekend. Maybe I'll see ya!

I'm scared to even open some of my older missions... the dozens we built... not sure if any of them will survive since they depended on various CSAR / CTTS scripts- I think I'll just need to revamp those ideas and start from scratch. Developing single missions with variable tasks is what I'd like to focus on. I'm still a little distracted by World of Warships... but that's a fad that is fading day by day.

See you.

Bump.

Well here's where I am so far:

As you can see from the not even borderline necropost- I didn't make it last time. Too frustrated. Sounded like the mission maker still had problem managing dynamically generated content and Ground AI pathfinding was inadequate for anything but the most basic tasks.

This time around I actually got the dedicated server up and running... sadly I recently learned that dynamically created aircraft are causing problems which I can confirm through the server crashing frequently with certain dynamic scripts. This is severely limiting when it comes time to trying to create a world that has a little more than nothing going on.

Anyone else struggling? Find any simple workarounds to add content? Any scripts that aren't impacted by the limitations to dynamically generated content?
